Need some guidance after a major wiring meltdown

Well, the day after the shock wore off I am going to get to it. I will replace the ignition switch with one I found milsurp, which is a 1404a, oddly the only difference I can find is one has an updated accessory circuit and I would assume that would be the b model. Both are for non tilt...

Need some guidance after a major wiring meltdown

I wanted to add some other details of the incident. The battery terminals were on tight, not just slipped on. The starter chugged to a stop in under a minute, probably 30-45 seconds. Since I did not have the lower trim or dash face plate installed, I could visually confirm the linkage moving...

Need some guidance after a major wiring meltdown

So, question is where did I screw up. The ignition switch worked twice, when it locked on the key and linkage still moved but did nothing. Thoughts I have are defective ignition switch, accidentally jostled something loose on the firewall 24v side working on the heater, something went wrong in...

Need some guidance after a major wiring meltdown

I have been estoring my m1009 and for the last two weeks I had the dash apart to install a nostalgic air ac kit and clean up my wiring. I changed the turn signal switch, combination switch, ignition switch, cleaned all contacts, opened up the fuse box and cleaned it, changed all fuses and...

Wanted I set of old seat covers M1009

Not to say you can't get close on color, you can, but color and grain match seems to be unavailable.

Wanted I set of old seat covers M1009

The problem will be finding the interior vinyl color. I checked everywhere. People who had the civi mahogany color code have the same seat color but on a deep brown carpet. I have a good passenger seat and a nos bench seat back. In the end I gave up and bought Madrid vinyl maroon covers ready made.

    Glow Plug survey

I should add that I did have to change to the wide spade terminals and I suspect the original issue was caused by the resistors being bypassed by a cake of dirt. Other than cleaning the resistors and changing terminals, stock card and 24v. Those swollen glow plugs came out intact with some...

Just getting started with Initial repairs

Their is a solenoid on the fuel pump throttle bracket for high idle speed, it is there for warm up and should disengage. It may be sticking, it also has an adjustment I believe and that may have been turned up. The throttle cable could also be stuck or the bracket bent

New Member, buying first M1009 Tomorrow (HOPEFULLY)

I plan to add the nostalgic air ac kit, I already own it, just need to put it in. If you fix up that rear junction block and keep the nato plug, it opens doors for outdoors stuff, like 24v fans, 24v space heater, 24v coffee makers, etc, not to mention drills, impact wrenches, stuff that could...

New Member, buying first M1009 Tomorrow (HOPEFULLY)

I bought mine dec 2014, in that time I changed the harmonic balancer, lift pump, water pump, all hoses and belts, figure on doing those preventively. My steering box was shot, I could turn the wheel 90 degrees and still be straight. I changed my front axel, ball joints were shot as were the...

    Radiator cap eruption?

Are you sure you moved over the spring or your new lower had a spring? Without it the lower collapses and you will get an overheat. Inside the lower should be a big slinky like spring.

    M1009 Heater Blower Motor

I replaced the switch and it worked since, when I get to my ac install I plan to strip the dash and clean all contacts, thanks for the tip! What you say makes sense, in my case there was heavy arcing in the switch at some point and it was in rough shape, but I can see how a bad plug would cause...

    Would you pay $17,000.00 for a M1009?

For my purposes where I may be weekending in the truck, 24v for an electric truck cab heater and running mil surp tools/ cooking equipment, 24v can't be beat for the reserve cap. I haven't had a non diesel vehicle in over a decade, don't see ever going back. I will acknowledge the detroit is...

    M1009 Heater Blower Motor

At least in my case, it was the switch, if i aggressively moved it up and down, I got some life from it. The switch is fairly flimsy when you get it out and you can clearly see if contacts are burned.

    Would you pay $17,000.00 for a M1009?

I think what you are willing to pay depends on what your goals are. Would I pay anything for the one listed? No, because as I see it, it got neutered the moment the gas engine went in and the 24V system was disabled and a lot of things don't look right. Would I knowing what I know now, if...

    M1009 vibration

It could be as simple as tires that have a flat spot from being parked so long or they are out of balance. i would change the harmonic balancer, mine physically looked fine, but the pulley oscillated when you watched it while running. The biggest improvement I have made was a new balancer it...

Information on replacing lines on my M1009

Iirc my set was $185, for the stainless hoses I went with Russell only because I found them on ebay before I discovered inline tube, they are a great resource for clips and any thing else related as well.

Information on replacing lines on my M1009

I just replaced mine and I went with inline tube.com, they went in as well as they can. I set out to simply replaces the hoses and the rear was so seized a flare wrench rounded it and then I cross threaded the front passenger hose and just decided to do them all. I can highly recommend inline...
