It looks like from your pics your push button switch is the same as mine. I would say the problem is somewhere in the gp bypass or relay s603. Here is a pic of mine.
What I found is sooner than later the gp card will start to fail. I installed a manual switch (button) that still lets the card work. It helps in the winter when I cycle the plugs and hit the button for about 20 more seconds. Today, after my M1108 sat in the cold with minus 15 F for a week it...
"Glow plugs were operating correctly." I suspect this is not true. My M1008 did the same thing. First I thought fuel and changed the filter only to be disappointed. I changed all 8 glow plugs and the problem was solved. That's my experince with a racing engine after start. The fuel did not...
I would look real hard at the Roscommon instructions and see if you can gain an understanding what might be wrong. My alternator is not grounded after the 12 volt conversion because I used the Duralast DL7157 from Autozone for the warranty.
I will be one of the few to say the 12 volt Roscommon conversion is the best thing I have done to my M1008. All parts are available locally and come with a limited lifetime warranty. As far as cold, I have not seen nor had any problems. I even have a spin-on fuel filter without a heater and...
I would guess your fuel filter is the problem. I changed mine to the Spin-On Fuel/Water Separator Filter and use a WIX Part Number:33472 for the filter. This is also the CUMMINS 3286503 fuel filter which I find harder to get. It was not hard and worth doing IMHO. There is no fuel heater, so...
Look @ Newsnote 10 in the link to find your problems with the chop doctor job on your vehicle. http://www.roscommonequipmentcenter.com/page26.html
You only need one alt with the 12 volt conversion. If you buy an alt buy the DL7157...
All belts except for the DS alternator are the stock ones for the K30 4WD V8 - 6.2L vin J 379ci DIESEL engine. There have been many threads on what is best that kind of confuse the issue...
My M1008 is converted to 12 volt using the roscommon method. I did this because I use it hunting in sometimes remote places and wanted to be able to buy parts locally. Since then my truck has never let me down.
You wrote,"That being said the charging system had been doing good until recently...
All of them. I was in a hurry because I got called away. If the fluid levels are low it will cause problems like he described. I like Lucas Oil products.
Before spending alot of money and time check your fluid level. Maybe even drain it and fill it up with Lucas Gear Oil. http://www.lucasoil.com/products/display_products.sd?iid=47&catid=12&loc=show&headTitle=%20-%20Lucas%20SAE%2075W-90%20Synthetic%20Gear%20Oil
You need two batteries wired in parallel. My truck is converted using the Roscommon method and it is the best thing I've done. The truck starts after sitting in the cold for a week or more. The beauty of the conversion is buying parts locally. The 1975 Cadillac alternator DL7157 fits the PS...
There are two things recommended that can save many problems. One is the doghead starter relay mod and the other is the gp resistor bypass. Both are so easy most people can do them and prevent mechanical problems later. Even the master CUCV guy, doghead does them. Use the parts recommended...
It looks like the doghead mod was never done. I think it is not as important when the vehicle is converted to 12 volt, but don't believe me without checking with others. I saved this pic from another poster because it is very good.
That said, I don't think that is your problem. My M1008 is...
