I tried running some tubing down the fill port and only got about 3’ in before I hit something (either a screen or just a tight bend in the fill port) and couldn’t get the tubing down into the ATF reservoir.
So I had a chance to get up and do some work the truck that mostly went really well but I made one idiotic oops (more on that below but I don’t believe it is a huge issue).
I bit the bullet and ordered the aftermarket airbags for the cab. Installation was easier than expected an only took...
@wheelspinner Thanks for the guidance on this. I checked the -34 manuals and they have detail around rebuilding electrical components (starter, alt, etc.) but nothing in detail on the wiring. I think the military's solution in the event of faulty wiring in a harness was just to replace the...
@coachgeo Thanks for the suggestion. I originally checked the starter after reading about driveline issues. I thought the issues were primarily related to the three main bolts that affix the starter to the engine (not the flange bolts). That said, I've tracked down a local driveline shop and...
@B-Dog Wow! That is some impressive detective work. I think you are absolutely right. I just pulled up Volume 2 and found Para 2-40 there on page 1142. I agree the section doesn't offer the help I was hoping to find but parts h. - q. of that para definitely deal with wiring. I also found...
I'm bad at a lot of things and trying to document the work I'm doing on my truck makes me realize I can add another thing to list - videos. Anyway, I pulled together a quick edit of pulling the starter and fixing the loose (and sheared) bolts on the flange plate. . .
Had a chance to get replacement bed tie downs from Peck & Hale installed - made a short video of the process. These things were $100/piece (plus shipping) - with all the FMTV beds that are getting scrapped out there hopefully some folks can pull some of these off and get them into the secondary...
This is really a TM question but I am trying to trouble shoot some faulty light connections on several new rocker switches I've installed and I've found the right TMs to trouble shoot the issue but it then refers to paragraphs (for example para 2-40) that I can't seem to track down in any of the...
@Third From Texas: Update on the trans fluid question. Got ahold of the CAT dealership this morning and turns out the transmission has OTR brand Full Synthetic ATF (Link Here). They said fine to top-off with any other full synthetic ATF - I asked specifically about Transynd or Mobil D/M and...
@Third From Texas: Good question. It looks (pinkish/red) and smells like ATF. What type of ATF, I don’t know. I’m going to call the Cat dealership up in Idaho (that serviced it for the prior owner) tomorrow to see if they have a record of transmission service and what it was filled with. If...
@B-Dog do you know what model or type of off-delay relays you used? I have an extra camera for my system sitting around and was thinking of wiring it up to cover my right hand blind spot. Thanks in advance.
I had a chance to get up to work on the truck earlier this week and got a couple material things done, namely 1) pulling the starter and tightening the flange bolts and 2) replacing the power steering box supply line coming from the power steering pump. I shot some video of the repairs that...
I thought these were just standard 12 pt bolts but I haven’t been able to get either metric or SAE drivers to fit on it. Any guidance much appreciated.
Thanks on the rig. The more time I spend with it, the more I find to do on it
Great to meet a relative local! I just got it plated last week so hope to be taking out exploring a bit more, particularly now as the snow is melting off here on the crest.
@TomTime nailed it on the CTIS...
I picked up some of the CTIS Wheel covers from MME a few weeks ago. They seem like cheap insurance - if $400 saves me changing a tire in the middle of no where - then that's insurance I'm willing to buy. It also provides me some tangible evidence of progress on the truck, which is always a...
