As a quick note on the issue no generator voltage output, make sure you're following the actual startup sequence (specifically, turning the engine switch to the crank position for a couple seconds after the engine is running). I suspect they used two different designs of voltage regulators in...
No, it doesn't. That's probably a misleading result. Continuity/resistance measurements are only valid on isolated (not powered up) circuits. With the master switch on, circuits are live and you're likely getting invalid readings.
You can electrically disconnect the fuel level sensor as a work around. It'll set an sensor fault code, but you can clear it with the fault reset switch and continue running that engine. I think you might be able to use the battle short switch to keep it running also, although it might be tricky...
Hmm, that's suspicious, like a technician swapped the I/O module in an attempt do solve the problem, or they used your generator for parts to fix another unit. Let's hope not.
Still, I think you should investigate why the network failure light doesn't illuminate when you press it. I think once...
I just quickly glanced at the schematic, and yes, the network failure light is powered up from S1 for the "push to test" feature through a terminal block that feeds a bunch of other stuff. I suspect if you track down the power feed issue causing the network failure light to not work when...
Yeah, I powered up an old CIM by itself on my workbench and those are the exact same readings. It is for sure not communicating with the I/O module. I haven't had a chance to look at the TM yet, but the inop network failure light makes me think something isn't getting powered up (such as the I/O...
The network failure light should come on when you first turn the main switch on, and should turn off when the CIM reaches a certain point in the boot up process. If it never turns on, but does work when you press it, there may be an I/O module issue. I'll have to read more about it.
Also, if...
If it also shows the fuel level at 107%, that means the CIM and I/O modules aren't communicating. Check the p20 ribbon connector at the I/O module and the p27 ribbon connector on the CIM. You can install the CIM validation program on a pc with a serial port, disconnect p20, and connect the...
Okay, so I've been thinking about this during my morning commute, and I realized something. The way it was wired before was charge wire from alternator downward through BCT, to inline fuse, to battery. The control circuit went from battery through BCT to control box. I didn't pay attention to...
Very interesting.
The schematic shows the circuit breaker on the on the alternator side of the current transducer, which is definitely not how mine are. The only way that would make a difference though is if the wire is supposed to go from the alternator to the circuit breaker, then up through...
Okay, so I did some more tinkering today with my MEP-805b generators, and I have discovered some more information that might be useful to others:
So far, I have determined that there are at least 3 different designs of CIMs. Each design has unique hardware and software. There are likely more...
Hello,
I have two MEP-805B generators, a 2008 model year with the 50 amp circuit breaker on the charge circuit, and a 2002 that had an inline glass fuse. On the 2008, the charge gauge reads incorrectly just as described earlier in this thread. The 2002 read correctly (after I replaced the...
Okay,
in all my recent tinkering with the CIM's on my MEP-805B generators, I have learned a lot. One of my discoveries is that the keypad literally emulates a serial mouse. You can disconnect the keypad's db9 connector and plug in an old serial mouse instead and use that to move the cursor and...
Okay,
I have finally fixed my CIM's screen issue that I first mentioned in this tread:
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?162166-Mep-805b-display-issues
I replaced the LCD panel, and it didn't make a difference, ghosting issue was still present. I decided to check the resistance of...
