1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

2nd Update! - Possible not a brake issue?! Hi folks! Thanks to help of a lot of members, I have gotten very far and been able to eliminate a number of questions. On the flip-side, I have created more questions. Quick re-cap: Air lines are free and sealed; Brake pads are free to move; Plungers...

I DO live in the US. Not in the continental US, but in the US. ;-)

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

After I removed the wheel and drum, and seeing what is going on, or not going on - I believe you might be onto something here. Hard to believe that someone would adjust too tight, but I don‘t know what and who is working on those trucks. I believe that the oil leak comes from the wheel hub. It...

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

Update! Sunday‘s progress! I got the truck on blocks and took the wheel off. Using a long thin pry bar, I was able to push the one brake pad back some, enough to be able to pull the drum off. Surprisingly, the drum came off rather quick, with the help of a big sledge hammer. Here is where it...

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

I completely forgot to check that when I had a buddy come by. Darn! From the sounds of it, I will be taking off a very heavy wheel tomorrow, and I am kind of excited and nervous about it. It really seems that this is the only way to get to the bottom of this. Wish me luck!

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

Any way to tell whether that‘s the case without taking the wheel off? Not that I could fix that without taking the wheel off, but it sure would be a nice motivator if!

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

You have definitely a point. From the little I know so far, it would be my most preferred solution for the stuck brake shoe and evidence of leaking fluid coming from the wheel. I am just not too excited to open up a perfectly tight air line/system to go after an unknown problem.

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

Yes. I have come to the same conclusion after looking at the setup from above and the engine side. Getting that wheel off with one brake shoe being so tight against the drum will be next to impossible I am afraid. I might have found the reason why this truck got ditched?! I am going to put the...

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

I have the CAT 3126 engine. I do have a air brake can. I won‘t get to the truck before a few hours but will attempt to take a better picture. It seems as the lower part of the wheel is leaking only.

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

It certainly appears that way. I am still in research-mode on that. On another note - I have found and downloaded more than one dozen of TM‘s, but came to realize they are for the 1083, and NOT the 1083A1! Any pointers in the right direction? I assume that the ABS light is directly associated...

They do not! I will go after the plunger mechanism (hopefully today)! Thank you!!!!

1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

Hello fellow FMTV enthusiasts! I am out of ideas, and after reading through countless threads for the past two weeks, I decided to ask for help! Here is what I have going on: M1083A1, Year 2000 One of the two brake pads on the front, left wheel does not release. I can and have driven it a few...

Identifying wires by there 'code' - Is there a way to reverse look-up?

OK! My question is - How can a wire which has a metal clip with a number at the end by the plug of any sort have a different meaning?! A wire can only go to/from somewhere, i.e. battery to starter relais.. right!? If a ‘P’ stands for plug, which would make sense, and no letter would describe a...

    End Use Certificate

My EUC experience! I won 2 (two) M1083A1's at the same time and had never purchased anything at this particular Military Surplus auction. I did my paperwork (filled out PDF forms on iPad, including signature), received an email the next day about a small correction I needed to take care of...

Identifying wires by there 'code' - Is there a way to reverse look-up?

That is EXACTLY what I was after!!!! ****!!!! This is incredible! I love it!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! This should be in the TM section... unless, it is and I just missed it! Just curious... do they work for all types of trucks or is this list for the FMTV only?

Identifying wires by there 'code' - Is there a way to reverse look-up?

Hi SS's! I have been jumping into this really quick and... I am loving it! It's kind of a little bit a hate-love thing to be honest, but most definitely 90% a 'love' thing! I have been digging into both of my year 2000 1083A1's for the past weeks (whenever I have a chance), and one thing...
