It's been tested and with the exception of a couple minor coolant leaks its good to go. The boost was 5 ish, but got it over 10 on a little hill without load. EGT's dropped almost 300 F, really happy about that. The turbo and rear exhaust made the cab quieter so I can hear turbo better. I still...
Protolabs has been good to work with on the metal side. They also do plastic and silicone rubber parts. They would be good to get a quote from. I like what Acme66 did here though. Like Teddy Roosevelt said, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Good thinking.
I will do some more reading an educate myself on what you just said to do. Thanks for your help and sharing your knowledge. I hope to fire up my turbo'ed 250 in the next couple weeks after I get my new coolant tank welded up and installed. What does this timing change do for you exactly? Would...
I think you can just buy gasket material and cut your own. That is what they did when I had mine rebuilt. I wanted it boiled out and repainted and new hose bibs welded on so I just let them do it all. You might find some shop rags in yours like I did in mine. Check your oil cooler too. I didn't...
I have been giving them my left overs to get a positive credit for stuff. I am done doing that after hearing this. I have needed upper radiator hoses for a long while and they never have them in stock. I will offer it to my brothers first for now on. Sorry.
I just gave my muffler to Boyce here in Ogden. It was in great shape from a dry desert truck. I bet they still have it. I am just about done converting mine to rear exhaust so I can start it in the garage and dust convertibles. I needed the 5" for the turbo too.
The same answer was given to my local dealer. They made comment that the first 2.5 ton kits were not drop in and required some fitting work. Something to consider. I would scrape up the cash to get the front axle done if this looked like a go.
Mine were already plugged from going through into the intake as well. Like you said, its a good thing to check while the intake is off. While I'm posting on this thread, I also decided that mounting the surge tank on the drivers side like others have done makes the best sense. I planned on...
Thanks for uploading and sending this to me earlier Juanprado. This is a very helpful document that we all will make good use of. I would have saved a lot of work replacing my wiring harness earlier if I would have had this. I have learned the hard way not to blindly duplicate what was done on...
I would sure appreciate if this could get added to the 5 ton TM's. I have the full kit too and have been replacing my current ABS here and there but would like some more details. Please share.
I am also tempted to move a heater core and a blower under the dash. I don't want anything that close to the turbo I added. The stock design is very bulky. Mine was working when I removed it, but it was full of fine dust and the hamster wheel had unnecessary drag from it. This great thread gave...
That is about what I paid and I think this is the same kit. My local guy had this in stock. I had to install in one piece after carefully getting the bolt spacing right by tapping them into each other. Barely cleared at the front. Mine fit tighter due to the ceramic.
I got the intake from the junkyard and cleaned it and powder coated it. The cooler was brand new in a rebuild kit with all new gaskets. I tried without luck to get exhaust manifolds from the junkyard. They all had issues (cracks etc.) so I bought new aftermarket manifolds for 1/4 the price...
Not a fan of BFH adjustments. Luckily, if you only install the front 2 of 3 lower bolts it can be installed at an angle and rotated into position. I used some permatex gasket goop to stick the gaskets to the block to ease the wrestling match. I had to install the cooler fully assembled. All the...
Thanks for sharing Jakelc15, much appreciated. Did you use 5" exhaust and an intercooler? I am saving for stainless while I fiddle with the cooling system. I am running my exhaust out back with a MBRP 9" diameter x 24" low restriction muffler likely over the rear axle. I have rivets where my...
I am also interested in this tune after getting my turbo hooked up. How did you determine your timing code? The data plate by my air compressor and the one on the block are painted over.
These photos are from a DHC-250 which does not match the title exactly. I finally got a bigger puller to remove the crank flange. I noticed some pitting and corrosion where the seal lip rides. I polished with scotch brite carefully to just remove the raised corrosion and the shallow pitting...
I did not have to plug my breather holes since they did not go through into the intakes. I also checked a few old school Cummins shops and could not get copies of these pubs but I won't give up looking. I have my intercooler installed and the turbo all hooked up. I will start working on the...
Thanks Jakelc15. That is a long read but a lot of good pictures. Grateful to have the extra room in my 923 after seeing all that. I found the pic of that breather hole. You could poke a wire down the hole and see if it comes out in the intake or not. Sounds like there might be some of both out...
