Might I add being a new owner of a Unimog 404, to learn more, I read the entire SS Unimog threads and the entire FLU thread. Took me about a week (evenings after work and family had gone to bed). Took a ton of notes, and learned A LOT!
There are many threads where info not in the topic starter...
This issue will not leave me alone.
Today while I was testing my Civilian Conversion Kit install, with drivers half of the doghouse off, I can step on the pedal or pull the throttle cable and the engine will rev up to about what I believe to be fast idle 1500 RPM or so and does not return back...
I don't think engine is supposed to be running. just asking for best method for lifting vehicle while it is not running.

I got the Civi Conversion Kit from EI, and it went in without an issue.
Now I need to time the engine and all the instructions I read (including the glove box manual) says to jack up rear axle so I can spin the right rear tire with 6th Gear engaged, 4 wheel lock disengaged and e-brake off...
Here is how I found it, I did a search on our favorite auction site but changed the domain to .de and looked for vendors that ship Worldwide (weltweit) and your login for the .com site works for the german site.
Just do a search for: KABELBAUM KABELSATZ 4045400305/604041077800 UNIMOG 404 S in...
Thanks for the advice. Ordered more MT-90 from Redline as draining gearbox and portal hubs requires refilling, and at $60 for a jug they better not be leaking, I'll be doing that very soon.
I will do more reading up on fording. I'm waiting for one of the few remaining snorkel kits from Unipaser...
Thanks Flu!
I just got off the phone with Scott at EI, he confirmed for me the part I needed was UM161 - Spacer Plate so I ordered the Civi Converstion Kit minus the Ignitor. Should be here in a few days and I'll probably spend my 4th of July day off working on putting it in (assuming it gets...
That wire (if you watch the video that Scott from EI Posted on YouTube in his Pertronix Install Video is from the original points, he screws down to one of the two screws opposite the ignitor. I will be doing that here.
The Pertronix is functional as the engine does run!
Watching the video...
Worst flood since Hurricane Sandy hit within 4feet of my front door. Flooding and high water here is unavoidable. If you actually have some helpful info on dealing with high waters and trucks please dispel your expertise. EBR Sheriffs Office has 2 or 3 M35A2 trucks, I know because they were...
I'm losing power going into 4th and can't seem to get to 5th without shifting early.
I've been reading the workshop manual, the user manual and tons of threads on here and BW.
In the maintenance guide in the workshop manual it states to first check Carb (Section 07/47), I cleaned it but...
The saga continues... as I was traversing the flood waters in my neighborhood from Saturday's storm, I got the end of my block and my engine was over-revving as the fuel pedal did not return (again). I had to work the throttle knob and throw it into neutral, quickly pull the doghouse off and...
Hey Flu,
Back to my original post. I went out and took those filters apart and sure enough one is the pre-filter and the other is the regular fuel filter. They were both the same type of filter. The pre-filter by the fuel tank had lost it's wing nut and the little screen started to come off...
In the manual it states Off Road to 20kmh for 10-20 Radial is 1.6 kp/cm = 22psi front / and 2.0 kp/cm = 28 psi rear. On Road is 3.75 kp/cm or about 53 PSI for both front and rear up to Max Speed, page 120 of 404s manual. I found a thread on BW that went into detail with some handy calculations...
That's funny, I will remember that, probably make a good shirt too!
You have mentioned this before, and I did write it down (somewhere). I even went out and bought an oil can to replicate your recommended use of such a cocktail.
I remembered that I had an Air Compressor in my shed, broke...
I went to clean the fuel filter and I ran across what appears to be two fuel filters?
One on the engine:
and the other by the fuel tank:
Staring that the manual and the documentation, it looks right.
Is the fuel filter insert for both of these the same?
While we're at it, my Air...
UPDATE: I have to apologize, I'm a Quality Assurance Tester by trade and one thing I always say is one issue per entry and here I have like 30 things in one thread. Geesh. As a few months have passed, I thought I would provide some updates to anyone crazy enough to read this far in in case they...
Thanks for sharing. You've contributed so much to my understanding of how my Mog works. I've read every thread on this forum about Unimogs including all of your posts. IMHO some of the best information is from threads that went astray. I seem to be asking a lot of questions, I was raised not to...
I guess I wasn't clear.
The ignition switch is kaput.
I was thinking out loud when I thought that using the battery switch under the seat could serve some alternate purpose for turning the truck off, but I guess not on.
Never mind.
Ignition switch needs to be replaced. End of story.

The WD40 sure did clean up my dash nicely but the jaws of the ignition switch refuse to budge. I figure I left the door window off the truck last few rainstorms and it got water down in there and fouled up something that was already on the verge of collapse. I pulled out the rubber shield in the...
