Check the fuel pump to see if the diaphragms are ruptured. You might be pumping/leaking fuel through the vacuum side into the intake manifold.

Try napa # up11410 (7/16x20) or dorman 484-144 (7/16x20x1.25) also bendex #94009. Hope this helps.

Check your choke. It sounds like it is set too rich.

My 1963b1 has a battery switch on the seat frame in addition to the one on the dash. When in the off position, the starter will still crank but there is no power to the ignitor or gauges. ...also on later 37's, check the ignition filter that is mounted inside the distributor housing.

It mounts and connects the same as the old one. Be careful when threading the cables on. When I swapped mine out the "new one" had cheap cast fittings that started to cross thread, and cracked off. I ended up soldering new ends on...other than that it's a breeze to change.

How easy does the motor start? Is there a difference when it's a cold start or a restart? Is the choke set correctly? Other than that, if there's fuel, I'd focus on the distributed. Check the coil, points and distributed shaft for excessive wobble.

If you want to test to see if it is the float, pop it out and put a champagne cork in its place. make sure that the float arm is bent to the same angle and direction as the original. If not then that will effect the reading.
