I the DH relay conversion over 2 years ago, the first mod I did as a preventive measure after reading about the many failures and the time and $ spent correcting the original relays faults.
Don't question it , do it.
Jelled fuel won't cause this, and thereis no tether.
Do the DH relay fix , clean all battery connections, shiney clean with wire brush and emery cloth , make sure batteries are fully charged and report back.
I went to one in Brooksville FL. last year. Any where from 3 to 5 thousand renactors, so I'm told participate.
The amount of realisim these people invest into this event is unbeliveable. Hundreds of tents set up for the north and the south. Cannons , horses, muskets, down to the smallest...
Posssibly remove the 4 bolts on the TC cross brace, might lower rhe trans enough to gain clearance.
The last time I reinstalled my tube I cut about 3/8 off the bottom, it's not needed, and made it go in easier.
I keep a can of silicone spray in the truck. Only had to use it once about a year ago. Ether and glow plugs is a bad combination, disable GP's if you must use it.
Silicone is recommended here and by my neighbor who is a 30 year diesel tech.
The TC support is supposed to be up against the frame. The spacers are to be above the frame. The reason for the long bolts is to absorb the torque fron the TC movement, ie the longer the bolt the more energy absorbed.
This is shown in the TM9-2320-289-34 , chapter 5 , page 58.
