I've got a stock 1984 M1008 that I use solely for snow plowing. I plow with the transfer case in low 4wd. On a few occasions I have spun all four tires at the same time when pushing a heavy load on packed snow. I use V-bar chains on all four wheels. Is there some locking or limited slip feature...
Thanks. I just bought the "07 Chevy wheels. The offset is about one inch less than the original wheels, so the tire will just be a little further to the outside, which I assume won't matter. At least there won't be any clearance issues.
Will the wheels from a 2007 Chevy 3/4 ton (8 lug) fit my 1984 M1008? I've got a chance to buy all 4 with good tires at a good price, but it's a long drive just to see if they fit. (245 75R 16)
I bought my 1984 M1008 specifically for plowing. mounted a brand new Western Prodigy plow (self adjusting wings), rebuilt the transmission and transfer case, added a trans oil cooler, built a box to mount counterweight (900 lbs of rocks) as far rearward as possible, V-bar chains all around...
Yeah, that's what I'm going to tell my mechanic. Every time I need to bring this thing to town I have to remove 900 lbs of rocks (counterweight to plow), tire chains, and the plow. I usually do my own work, but the last axle and hub I replaced was ten years ago and it no longer looks like fun.
I just checked with my mechanic and he feels sure it is a bearing (I forget which one) on the front axle. I will also look at the universals, but they all looked good last time I checked, and since the noise is only when the hubs are engaged I think my mechanic is probably right. I will also be...
1984 M1008. Have newly rebuilt transmission (TH400) and transfer case (NP200). When I coast down a hill in 4WD with hubs locked I get an intermittent rubbing/grinding noise. I do not get any noise when I unlock the hubs. I sucked some differential fluid out of the front differential and it is...
I finally traced the white wire. It had bare spots and the plug end was very dirty. Replaced the wire, cleaned the plug, and that was it; works great now. I never would have found this without your help....THANK YOU!
I finally located and replaced that white wire, which was bare in places, and cleaned a very dirty plug at the fuel heater end and that was the problem! I never would have found it on my own and very much appreciate the tip.....THANK YOU.
I understand how you feel about keeping things original, but I'm an old guy and not so spry anymore. Also have a backhoe and dump truck to get fixed. Since the truck is only used for plowing, I would be happy with a simple system, one wiper speed would be OK, and do not need the washer. (I also...
Thanks for your reply. Hate to be such a dummy, but what is the -20? If it's a repair manual how can I get one?
I'm having trouble tracing the shorted wire. I'm thinking of just running a new hot wire to the motor, but can't figure out where. I've never seen a wiper motor like this. Seems to be...
I spoke too soon. I had the fuse in the wrong place. There is a short to ground downstream from the wire plug. I checked all five pins, and the three center ones are all grounded. I assume the two outside are hot in and hot out? Anyway, does anyone know how/where to access the wiper motor?
