My 1986 m1009 appears to be CARC to me. I had the interior of the tailgate painted CARC green and it matches the rest of the interior except for some obvious fading of the old paint. Army tanks and APC's are painted here and I am told the interior and exterior are CARC.

Welcome from Alabama. There are plenty of things to look for but you are probably aware of most of them with the Suburban. You will probably want to add 2 cycle oil to the diesel for lubrication for the injectors and the injection pump.

My gauge is usually in the yellow until I gently smack it with the end of a plastic bottle, then it jumps into the bottom of the the green. These gauges are old and not that great. It has been working like this for 3 years. I would be really happy if mine showed high green like yours.

Have you got this figured out yet? I think I could probably measure the distance of the top of my tube to the bottom of the pan with a piece of stiff wire, maybe a coat hanger, then you do the same. This should tell you what is going on.

That is a good point. I will use the lexan. Increasing safety is another one of my goals for this vehicle, probably the most difficult to achieve or most expensive.
