    Wheel gasket help?

Do you know the size of the thick o ring so that I can call the ag place in the morning and see if they have any? I have been thinking about it and they didn't charge me for a boot. Unless that was just part of the price of the tube having no boot in that tire would doom it with a two piece...

    Wheel gasket help?

Lost a tire due to internal cracks, headed to Boyce and bought 4 very new 14.00-20 XZLs. While I was there I picked up four 1/4 inner o rings. When I pulled one of my wheels apart there was a 3/8 o ring in a completely different configuration. A big groove and the face plate that slipped over...

How many troops in a m939

Something I have wondered about idly for some time now. How many troops did the military figure a 939 with troop seats would hold? Did they have a design specification or just cram them in until it is full? Ken

    Nelson Off-Road Tours Build Thread

Look I made a simple and effective nail catcher! That is number 3 I think. So far (knock on wood) they have all hit the steel belting and deflected along the top going sideways. I spent some time getting up close and personal with the transfer case interlock and we work much better as a team...

    Blew up a battery....

Can confirm 2 batteries will work. Been using truck commercially starting it half dozen times a day on 2 older 6CTA's for more than a year. Unless you desire the accuracy or have a need for a large amount of reserve power 2 is fine. When mine go I am off to Costco to buy 2 of the largest top...

    Rockwell Axle top plate question.

Alright some lawn-side sleuthing uncovered the issue. When I tightened it down the gasket on that side slid inward about an 1/8th of an inch leaving that hole covered only by RTV with no backing. That is why it held for a few 100 miles or so then started leaking. Gear oil worked its way under...

    Rockwell Axle top plate question.

Ahhh, the cover isn't symmetrical, it is a little wider on one side than the other. I think I answered my own question. It got spun around at some point and I just kept putting it back on like I found it and being frustrated at the leak I couldn't stop. Brain fart. Ken EDIT: Nope it was...

    Rockwell Axle top plate question.

I will not be able to open my pdf manuals until I get home, something I didn't think I would need just to deal with a leaking top plate. In the picture the screw driver is pointing to a threaded hole that is not totally covered by the top plate. It leaks, a lot. Am I supposed to have a plug...

If you enter the step name into google it should come up. I don't think the company sells directly to the consumer. Prices ranged from a lot to a whole bunch at the various camper sellers. We don't use ours anymore because it just didn't work for having hundreds of people on and off and it...

    Temperature sender values

I have a failing trans temperature sender. You could have made some diamonds if you had coal when I looked down half way up the grade and saw the trany temp north of 260. After some testing I have been able to determine that my sender failed at set percentage off true value, like a out of...

    Intermediate prop shaft question

Well that is what I am calling it. The truck was being persnickety on the tour run today. First I was trying to see if I could make it up the last big grade on the run in 1st high but looked down to see the trans temp at 255. I don't think it was that hot, didn't feel, drive or smell like it...

    M939 Transfercase shifting

I also removed the linkage and pulled that washer off. Helps me a lot but I will sure take a look at that lockout because sometimes mine is a brutal beast (see picture below) and sometimes it is smooth like butter... Video of removing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxbu8CVUUrk

    M925 making a strange noise

My tire davit sounds a bit like that if I don't pull on things with a rubber bungee. Not saying that is it but it sure is an easy thing to test. On mine it was the trolley rattling. Ken

    Nelson Off-Road Tours Build Thread

Tour update. We are just starting our third weekend (fri-sun right now)and business is picking up if not booming. Had a few $200 days and a few we get nothing or give away rides. Assuming I work for free we are paying the fuel and maintenance bill with enough left over for some top...

Converting a 923 over from motor oil in the Allison to transmission fluid.

You got a website for your tours? It is rough but operational. Except the email, that seems to be broken. www.nelsonoffroad.com Ken

Converting a 923 over from motor oil in the Allison to transmission fluid.

It might be worth noting that Dex III is a 10w oil. Some of you might be running in hotter climates than I am, that might explain some of the things you describe. Others well, I think some have made up their minds one way or the other and it isn't going to change regardless. I can say that...

Converting a 923 over from motor oil in the Allison to transmission fluid.

Back and forth the debate rages. I just did it to mine and the difference was astounding. This was a truck that shifted rather well mind you but now? No joke it is better than my wife's SUV. You could set a cup of coffee on the seat next to you, go from 2nd to 1st and not spill a drop...
