I swapped out the oil in the transmission for real transmission fluid. Wow. Once the video is uploaded I will share a new thread so you can see exactly the changes it made.

Some of the publicity shots for our tour company:
We have some hill climbing videos over at youtube:NelsonStudios but I don't do mud with this truck, too much work.
I have a three camera unit in the tour truck, one in the cab that gets the dash and some out the windows (not the best), one at the front of the bed on the passengers and one on the rear I use as a backup camera also. The DVR has ports for four cameras. My issue was I also wanted a screen to...
I have been at this plate a few times now, once with straight gasket sealer like I found it and like the other axles. Once where I made up a nice thick cork gasket and sealer on both sides. For the life of me I can't find anything wrong, the cover sits flat, no damage to the sealing...
I was worried it would get brittle but now that I have done it I see even brittle you are not going to be driving it so it wold be fine. I will try that next time for sure.

I knew of this process from a friend who worked for BNSF but never thought to apply it to anything I was doing. I guess I thought using heat was silly short of really big things. Well the 923 is big right? Working alone, getting that hub into my...
Is there an inlet screen in the tank? I ask because you said it worked for a bit after pressuring the tank. Seems to me I had an old jeep that would pull fuel fine but when it ran out it was buggered. Turned out the pickup screen in the tank was gummed up. Maybe without the fuel in the lines...
It was a tough job made worse by inexperience, working alone and broken stuff but I got it done. I made a little video for others to learn and laugh at me. I hope I don't have to do this once a year like some of you.

PS: Look at what I found...
The other front had some dark grease but they cleaned up spotlessly. No contamination into the driveline just the bearing. Hub seals were good, I have no idea how it got in there or how long. Years and years and salt water is my guess. The wheel ran cool, tight and quiet. I was in there to...
I am looking at this kit with silicone, I saw others that came with bushings but nothing seems to indicate a need for that yet. I assume I will need a pair of hub gaskets?

Well that is that then. I wish there was more consensus on who's boots are worth a darn. I have a weepy axle seal so I guess I will do the one piece and change that while I am in there.

1984 M923. Both my boots are cracked/torn at 12 o'clock. Doing some research on changing them the few pictures of blown boots I found were in way worse shape than this. I am lacking a frame of reference for how bad is to bad. Is any hole one to many or is it like my old Cj5? I am also...
These are gravel roads and as far as limits it varies as to how bad (wet) the road is. Most times around here the limits are psi per tire so I am just trying to be proactive. Not everyone is going to be thrilled to see us so I would like to have my ducks in a row. As far as parking the truck...
I am sure the ground pressure per axle/tire exists in a neat chart in a TM some place but some half hearted search on my part didn't turn it up. Anyone care to shortcut me? I need to know the empty psi per tire as it could come up with the roads in spring breakup. I have the 1400 goodyear...
Getting ready to run the truck for our tour business this summer and that means spending a lot of time between 5000 and 8000 feet. It is a 1984 923 so the non-turbo 855. Can anyone give me an idea about what to expect? I assume power loss but what about starting issues? Just looking into...
