I use a 10 ton rated pintle to move my M105 around. It seems to work ok. As for the lights, I would recommend getting a set of magnetic trailer lights. You can pick up a kit at most auto parts stores or Walmart.
I second Recovry4X4, I pay $304 per year for full coverage with the same limits as my personal vehicles and $9000 declared value. This policy does not allow commercial use. Also, absolutely no hassles with those folks as all they do is specialty insurance.
Sorry, I can't make the cookout in GA this weekend. I race off-road motorcycles as my other hobby, so I'll be running through the woods in an enduro this weekend.
What's going on in May?
Sorry it’s taken me so long to get some more of my trip report up here, but I’ve been swamped since I got home. I meant to call a few more of you folks along my trip, but was trying to conserve the cell phone battery for emergency use. As it was, it died shortly after I got home.
Overall the...
Hi all,
I'm home. Pulled in the driveway about 2100 hrs., unhooked the trailer, and parked the truck. I'll move everything around some tomorrow after work.
All went well. 1600 miles give or take. I'll pull out my log book tomorrow and give a more detailed trip description. No problem...
Hi all,
Stage 1 was completed successfully. rofl I finished up about 2:30am Sunday morning, and spent all of yesterday in Freeburg resting. 550 or so miles in 12 hours, plus the flight, and other stuff...that was a long day.
No issues to speak of. The truck is running and driving...
I talked with the GL guy prior to winning, and he indicated that I should be OK. I'll have a temp tag/registration from Wisconsin and I already have full insurance on the truck. Although, the GL guy said I should be OK, I'm still not 100% sure that I'll be able to get on base. If I do great...
Well, I fly up on Saturday to pick up my new-to-me Deuce from Alfa Heaven. I've discussed this some in the Deuce forum, but thought it might be good to start a thread in the road trips section as this is more focused on my actual trip. I have modified the route slightly from what I originally...
Kevin, I'm glad to hear you made it home safely. Sorry to hear about the starter, but it sounds like you did fine.
I have definately decided to go up to the shop. I'm sure I would regret it later if I didn't do it when I had the chance. The 16th is coming up quick.... :jumpin:
Thanks for the tip on Monteagle.
Now on to my next dilemma, Tom has offered two options when I pick up my Deuce. One is to bring the Deuce to the airport where we can complete all the paperwork, and I could get on the highway headed south from there. The other is to go back to his shop where...
I've thought quite a bit about Monteagle. I've run this route several times before on trips back and forth to Illinois. I know that in a passenger vehicle you don't have to touch the gas on the way down, and you'll still accelerate. I'll definately take my time going down that one. I've...
That truck looks nice in the pictures. The main thing that worries me about it is what is that large drain pan doing under the front??? I'd definately inspect before bidding.
Yeah, if my driving schedule supports it, I'd like to have a stop just south of Atlanta.
Can I drive the Deuce straight through Atlanta, or do I have to take the bypass?
RE: flagstaff
Kevin,
I just got off the phone with Tom at Alfa Heaven, and he said that your truck is in the shop being readied for it's journey. Good luck and don't forget the camera.
Chris
I'm assuming the hub changeout is a 20-30 minute job. I need to call Tom on Tuesday to make arrangements for shipping my supplies to him via UPS, and I'll talk to him about doing the hub changeout.
Tom has the front drive shaft out of the truck right now for highway use. Does that have a similar effect to the desplined flanges, or would it be better to use the them?
What size jack should I get if it doesn't have one? Floor or bottle jack?
Keep the advice coming...I'm taking notes. I like the idea of sending the tools up via UPS. I'll get a list together of what I'm packing and post it here before I send it just incase there's something I forgot. What are the common socket/wrench sizes I should pack? I imagine I wouldn't need...
