M1008 Lift Kits - Seek advice on size ( 2,4,6 inch) & type: block or reverse shackle

I'm running 6" of lift. 6" leafs up front and a 4" block plus a 2" helper leaf in back. I know it's not the best way to go, but It's fairly cheap and so far I've had no problems.....and I do quite a bit of hard wheeling.

    Rear brake help

Finished the job earlier in the week. It was easy once I knew what the heck I was doing. Drum slid right off no problem. Replaced the seals and bearings while it was apart. Looking to start the truck for the 1st time since starting the restoration in a couple of days.

    Rattle can paint advice

Just about ready to paint. I just finished the majority of the mechanical work and frame work. I just threw the body panels on yesterday....bed is still off. I have a few more things to do and I should be laying down paint next week. I still have to get one of those pistol grip things for...

    Rear brake help

Just pulled out the old seals. #48287, of course the # is printed on the inside side of the seal so I couldn't see it while it was still on the hub. Hopefully they'll have them in stock. I'd like to get the job done today.

    Rear brake help

Like ya'll suggested, I'm going to replace the bearings and seals while it's all apart. Anyone know the correct inner seal to buy. The parts stores around me are Napa, Advanced and Autozone. Each one has several rear axle seals available for 86 K30's, and each one is a different size. I'll...

    Rear brake help

Hey fellas, When I went to replace the brakes on the rear axle, I found the drums to be frozen and I can't get them off. On the K30 axles, do you have to unbolt the hub from the drum in order to get the drum off, or is it just a matter of hammering off the frozen drum? I've never worked on 1...

    M1008 wheel studs.

Hey fellas. Just getting ready to throw my new/used 37's on my axles (dana 60 and 14 bolt) and discovered that the wheel studs are too short to fit the wider rims. So, needless to say, I have to get longer studs. The stock ones are at least an inch too short. My problem is that I have no...

    My M1008 wanna-be clone

Here's my M1008 clone build.....sort of. A little history on the truck, I bought it about 6 years ago for $500. It's an 84 GMC High Sierra. I didn't intend to make a M1008 clone out of it but I've since seen them and fell in love. I was going to do just a standard off-road power build. It...

    Rattle can paint advice

Will do. I suppose I ought to start a thread showing what I've done so far. It's been a 6 yr long resto/build project. I thought I was done till I blew the motor last month. Figured it'd be a good time to do a frame off restoration...seeing that I had to take of the entire front body to get...

    Rattle can paint advice

Really looking forward to trying it out. Been working on the truck for so long, it's exciting to get to the final step of the resto/build-up.....the dang paint. Body work is my achilles heel though. Hate it!!!!

    Rattle can paint advice

Will do. Just have to finish some sheet metal work. I had to weld in a bit of new skin. Have one more to go on the end of the bed.....right behind the rear bumper.

    Rattle can paint advice

Thanks fellas. Yeah, I figured it be pretty straight forward. Just didn't know if there was anything odd with the GCI that made it lay different than other rattle can paints. Hopefully it won't come out looking too crappy.

    Rattle can paint advice

Hey fellas, I could use some of the wisdom that ya'll must have about painting. Before I start, let me just say that I did search the forum but couldn't find a thread that addressed this. I know ya'll must be pretty dang sick and tired of answering paint questions. I did search the threads...

    Howdy Ya'll, from Sterling CT

Cool, thanks. The state forest you speak of is Pachaug....I think that's what you may be speaking of. It's about 15 minutes from me. Sort of the north east part of the state. The Pachaug trail system runs up to Maine. It has alot of great and diverse terrain. It's legal for any registered...

Howdy Kerismo. I see you're from CT. Do you know of any places in the state to go wheeling? Legally of course.
