Check for a stuck Gen2 relay under the dash next to the starter relay as mentioned above diodes behind the dash. There was an earlier post that had pictures of all the locations for diodes and relays behind the dash (Thanks Warthog)...
Go to the TM link below there is an illustration on page 539 of 724 or section 249 in the TM. The TM does not call out any difference between 208 and a 205 so I do not know if there is a difference I have only worked on m1009s that have the 208 that uses the "adapter", item#8.

If you did not feel the tip break off and the glow plug came right out, the tip was most likely burned off from either the military or GL starting the vehicle on starting fluid. Run it if it did not surface or make noise in the 30 min. you had the truck running its most likely gone.

Firecontrol86, we are talking about the gear ratios in the front and rear diff. in the axles. As far as I know the only gearing you can change in the trans would be a first gear set for drag racing applications or adding some type of gear vendor over drive unit to the trans.
