They sound like Jet engines up close. It's a monster 17L V12 air cooled diesel.
The valves down near the drivers left leg are the CTIS for each wheel. Air down those monsters and it takes a while to build the pressure back up, as James can probably attest to.
These guys were building...

It's been a long time no hear. Hope all is well with the Kolos ! I sold an 813 to FL last spring. What a nightmare ! It came in in pieces and I had an ex. Czech machinist from Connecticut come up and help me put it together, well at least the electrical parts. I had it a...
That is one nice looking bed. They are few and hard to find. I bought two from Europe and they both needed new wood. It's a miserable job to replace the wood on a 404 Cargo (Pritsche) bed. So bad in fact I had to beg a carpenter friend to try and do it. He didn't care too much for it...
For the larger Unimogs they made a NATO aluminum box (for the U1300L) It is probably very similar to the US version.
I still like the Russian comms boxes they make a really nice shelter.

Looks great with the Steel box off. If you mount anything on there make sure you dont' "hard" mount it. You need to keep that 20 degree frame flex or you will just have another stiff axled 4x4. The frame articulation is where it's at, as if you didn't know.
A cargo bed would look good...
GovLiquidation has some sweet deals out there, but the shipping is muderous. I had two Multifuel engines shipped from TX and LA to VT for around $750 each. No other choice since there aren't many shipping companies on the list. I mostly could have shipped each engine for between 150 and...
I have run LP in three diesels only one was a turbo model. LP has the greatest impact in Direct injection engines, indirect really doesn't do much but change the tone a bit and it seems to give a cleaner burn.
On the OM352 (Mercedes 5.7L 6 cyl) it gave about 25 hp gain <?> which...

Great to hear from fellow "German Iron" collectors out there. I haven't had much experience with IFA's They look somewhat like a cross between a Robur and a SIMCA (renault). Was IFA an East German company ? Seems like DC/Mercedes has swallowed up so many larger truck...
Thanks for the comment on the website - it really needs alot of work. I literally have 3 CD's full of pics of Mogs, Tatras, MAN's etc.
Most of the trucks are in Germany, Denmark and two in Belgium. I have one coming soon. The prices are pretty typical but will change soon (the...
The U1300L's used a comms shelter in the back of a cargo bed. They had an interesting looking tied down system though. I think the Swiss have the best idea with the Fiberglass box which is about half the weight of the NATO steel "Koffer" box and has standing headroom in the center as well...
