Because the Army had a different specification - as Suprman said.
You are assuming that this is a problem... The real purpose of the chain is to wrap around something - axle, damaged vehicle frame, tree...... without committing one of the biggest faux-pas of winching - wrapping the cable...
Welcome fellow "Roverite"!!
NJ is very healthy for Rover activity though predominantly civi ones - I am off to a do there early Aug - maybe 25 of all ages, probably only a few ex-mod.
Our Rover do is in Nov - upstate NY, great crowd and lots of off roading....
How about making a lunette eye hitch extension/converter for the front of the trailer - quick attach to the kingpin of the trailer? I am sure the wreckers pintle hitch is up to it..
NB. This a purely an idea.
Extension of 'frame' to the left of the pic, then chaining to trailer frame would...
Not sure if they were connected, but we recently drove along 70 (4th July weekend) and there was a complete wrecker body at the front of a small yard, on the South side a few miles West of Kinston, maybe 11 miles... I seem to remember a "Kinston 12" mile sign some time after I saw the wrecker...
Not sure what the regs are in AZKSMOOK (not sure about the pronunciation of that one), but in snowy NY - you can have trailered equipment without a registration so long as it has all the reqd DoT lights HOWEVER, if you have so much as one wrench in the smallest of tool boxes - it turns into a...
The trailer has a full width, collapsible gooseneck - not a removable gooseneck (RGN). On the front of the gooseneck, there is a clevis/pin.
To hook up the trailer, tractors winch cable is attached to the clevis.
Tractor then winches up the gooseneck with it's parking brake OFF and it gets...
That has got to be the greatest compliment - I hope we don't have to wait too long for Soni's reaction!!!
Like the M870 trailer and the Unimog wrecker too!!!
About to tackle this job - had to do a 'reply' so I can find the thread again! Thread tool - subscribe etc...
Search for "Drum" was the closest I found - even then I had to wade through a load of irrelevant postings. Winch drums etc. NB. Search for "brake drum" gave rise to too much on the air...
Anyone in the Chicago area able to make a pickup from Downers Grove, box and ship to me in NY a 30 / 40 lb piece of military kit? Maybe fit in a large "if it fits, it ships" box...
Thanks
Sorry to hear about the hick-up to your plans.
I'm thinking you and the previous owner "your friend" will be very comfy in the Superduty. I hope he doesn't snore too much.
[I think I'm making a reasonable assumption here considering the vehicle and your location!!!]
Re pieces - yes it's a...
Bringing:

So if I eventually decideto get rid of my lube unit trailer - I could put it in the classifieds as a "Mule trailer" (with air bunnies) and people will 'get it' - Awesome!!
Note for mods - I am not selling anything ..... yet!
Double tapered socket, double tapered plug, spread cable end over plug , assemble inside the socket - nut tightens the whole lot wedging it all together - like a compression fitting of sorts. Make sure that you see the cable end through the little hole before tightening.
Like Jeff said - these...
Yes you did - I was still going off half cocked from the previous one!! Hadn't realised that you talking about the same thing, still thought there was a B2 we needed to discover with the things like on the pallet.
Oh no - I was the one that thought you had found a new holy grail!! I am that...
