M1008 No Start Condition Help Request

Take a few minutes and pull the glow plugs. Once they are out you can turn the engine over easily, and see if the injection system is functional. It should crank over and smell strongly of raw diesel. You should see white puffs of diesel mist coming out of all 8 glow plug holes.

M1009 Wheel bearing servicing and hub replacement

Something else to think about if your 1008 hubs were contaminated is that you may want to pull your spindles off and check the condition of the stub shaft, and the roller bearing that supports it. The last Dana 60 I pulled apart was so contaminated that the roller bearing the inside both of the...

need alignment advice. Got alignment. Now have Death Wobble. What to do?

Crossover steering can contribute to death wobble. Conventional GM drag link geometry is impervious to the truck moving slightly left to right compared to the front axle. As soon as you go crossover when the frame and steering box deflect to the drivers side compared to the axle it makes the...

need alignment advice. Got alignment. Now have Death Wobble. What to do?

I run about 1/8" toe in on my rig (with 37" tires), and it behaves. It is possible you have kingpin issues, it may be worth it for piece of mind to pull the cap and arm off, toss the old springs and bushings and inspect everything. A bushing kit with new 5 coil springs is cheap insurance. If...

Is it crossover steering or stock drag link?

    New Linkage for 700R4 Bracket?

Aye. The rod, I do not have that part number, but I'll keep an eye open for the number.

    New Linkage for 700R4 Bracket?

Yes, you can buy the TV cable brand new. I don't have the part number anymore, I got mine from Transparts Warehouse in Redding CA. They have an aftermarket brand of TV cables, I have had mine for a couple years with no problems. If I find the part number I'll post it. I think it may be in a...

    Intake choice

I'll second the porting. I've seen some horrible as-cast runners on the 6.2 intakes. Even if you do rough job on the ports it will be much better than original, just match to a quality gasket.. As for which one you should run I really have no idea.

Anyone ever wire in a cold advance / high idle manual disable / bypass?

So, we all agree that mashing the throttle while the cold advance is on isn't a desirable thing to do. I think TGP and Dependable have the emissions concept backwards. Retarded timing reduces NOX emissions. GM probably bought the cold advance option on the pump so that they could offer a more...

Anyone ever wire in a cold advance / high idle manual disable / bypass?

I grasp how the high idle works, and really the only reason I'm thinking about fooling with the high idle is that it is tied into the same thermostat as the cold advance. The cold advance is what bugs me. I fire up the pickup on a 40 degree morning and it takes at least 10 minutes for it to...

Anyone ever wire in a cold advance / high idle manual disable / bypass?

I hate driving around the neighborhood while the cold advance is on in the wee hours of the morning. I am thinking of wiring the cold advance / high idle to a double throw switch. Up would be manual on, center position would be disable and down would be normal, where it is controlled by the...

New Fuel return lines that wont leak

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?138997-Injector-return-hose-side-by-side-comparison-Tygon-silicone-Viton-etc&highlight= I beat the horse well into death. I was not able to find anything other than the stock system that would survive being stretched over that large drivers side...

    Throttle Sticking

If you decide to take a peek in the pump be sure to post what you do or don't find. It is easy, grab a beer, nutdriver, some solvent and rags and go for it.

    Throttle Sticking

TThere is a reason why I am asking about the metal tag is this... The metal tag designates that the pump has been retrofitted with the new style governor weight retainer. No tag most likely means it has the old style with the urethane ring that falls apart and gets into everything. If your...

    Throttle Sticking

Is there a metal tag with a letter stamp under one of the three lid screws?

No power steering or brakes after new pump and lines

The guts of the pumps are identical. The displacement of the vane pump is the same on all of those GM saganaw pumps. The only application difference is the can, regulator and flow restrictor. Just take whatever mystery box store rebuild you can get, put your diesel can on it, take the...

No power steering or brakes after new pump and lines

Just to be sure... You have the pressure hose hooked up to the passenger side port on the steering box and the return hose hooked up to the drivers side port right? I think that is about the only place you could cross things up since the connections to the hydroboost would be much harder to...

No power steering or brakes after new pump and lines

So two common bad things can happen that will allow you to pull out the shaft, or excessive endpla (more than 1/8"). 1) the shaft is broken. 2)the circlip that holds the rotor on has broken or come off. If you can pull the shaft out get another pump. If not check out the pic above. You...

No power steering or brakes after new pump and lines

Well that is good news. How much endplay does the pulley / shaft have if you try to pull it by hand in and out of the case?

No power steering or brakes after new pump and lines

The question was did you press the pully on correctly with a bolt, washer and thrust bearings? If you beat it on, or used a hydraulic pump the pump may be junk. Personally I like to pop apart the reman pumps to be sure of what I'm buying. Make sure the regulator has no washers and the flow...
