We had very good cooks who actually used the old fuel burning ranges INSIDE the cargo bed and never managed to burn the thing down. The chow they prepaired was quite good and seconds were usually available. Not up to the quality of M37 Bruce's work but good none the less.

40 years ago the NG Maintenance unit I was a member of used a truck with canvas like that as a kitchen truck. When it was raining the cooks were able to stand and work without hitting their heads.

TM 9-8030 lists the firing order as 1,5,3,6,2,4, it was not marked on my trucks cyl. head or the spare I have although I have seen it on some heads.

I got a new pump from NAPA several years ago and used the thin paper gasket that came with the pump when I installed it on my M37 and it also leaked. I removed it and made a new gasket from thicker blue gasket paper and once reinstalled no more leaks. If you used the NAPA supplied thin gasket...

You might try checking the new T-stat to see at what temp. it opens. Remove it and place it in a sauce pan of water on the stove along with a thermometer, I use a candy thermometer. Slowly bring the water temp up and note at what temp when or even if the new stat opens. A 180 stat begins to open...

That's a good looking 57, nothing like a red Ford pickup. The job you are doing looks very thorough, nice work. I restored a 56 Chev Bel Air 2 door and then painted it 57 Ford pickup red, just something about Ford red that I like.

If the oil filler tube is bolted to the block with a two hole flange it's a military block, but if the tube is a press in type and the block doesn't have a two stud mounting flange for the tube it is a civ. block. Also the blocks serial number should start with T245 then the rest of the serial...
