Thanks guys.I want to install a tank style block heater on the drivers side where there is more room.I want to get a brass plug and get a brass nipple brazed on it then tie block heater into it.
I noticed post 101 and 102 someone was looking for wheels and he had a 1009 in his avatar, and saw some on ebay being sold by deuceseller out of Brackney,PA. Rick if you search on the site under cucv m1009 you can find them if in need.Sorry has nothing to do with your build but its where I saw it...
Is air-cleaner assembly original? How is exhaust system.? When I installed a 14x7 k&n open air-cleaner on my 1009 the noise was nearly unbearable,it also eliminated all low speed vacuum which caused crank case pressure and puking out of motor oil. Also check trans.dipstick tube clearance with...

I don't know how to post picts,I used to be able to post vid on youtube but now that has outsmarted me also.I simply did the bypass, went 1/0 gauge from front batt.poss to a 140amp cir.breaker, then 1/0 ga. to a reducer 1/0 ga to dual 4ga to 8ga splitter to the 12v...
After 30 years we never know what we are getting, especially if bought on line,I knew something wasn't quite right with my newer 1009 purchase on the first drive. It wasn't til I installed a tach and started checking rpm vs mph that I caught gear change. If had known this 1009 had 4.56 gears I...
cucvrus is right when my resistor bank went bad I lost 7 new glows in a matter of 5 days, its called cascade effect if you care to search.I did the resistor bypass and have had good luck ever since. On my second 1009 it was already bypassed by the fire department that used it before me.Other than...
Congrats,I really wanted a 1008 recently when I was looking for a second cucv, but didn't have the $ to deal with a gear swap.So I bought another 1009 and low and behold someone swapped 4.56 gears into it.I bought it online,it was supposed to have 3.08s but....
I like 1009s because of ease to work on and mpgs, your civy had 3.08 gears and a 700r4 trans which would give you a final gear of 2.31 in od,which would give about 1600 rpms at 65.How did it drive and do on the highway? Im sure not a speed demon but over all where you happy with it?
What I would like to do is pull GP power from both batterys instead of 12v from just front batt.Is there an upgrade for the ballast resistor which is no longer produced? Or can we install 24v glows and still use existing GP solenoid system? And pull power from 24v.Mine is currently manual only...
You can always go back, the only thing left 24v on my 1009 is the starter. The only downside I see for keeping 24/12 v is you have another alt.to keep track of and an extra belt.I like the 24v/12v setup now that I understand it?
The upgrade is one of first things I did on my second cucv. After suffering runaway starter on my first one.It cant hurt. And easy to do and fairly cheap. And I do not smoke weed, and would not advise anyone to do so,especialy when working on or operateing a cucv. No matter what Cheech and Chong...
What ever you do don't run an open style 14x7 aircleaner element to give it free breathing. It effects the cdr valve and will cause positive crankcase pressure pushing your oil out everywhere.Diesels don't have much vacuum at idle and they do need it for oil fill cap and cdr valve to work,please...
We can do it.My newest vehicle is the 86 1009,then an 85 1009,then a 79 chevy Malibu.all non computer vehicles. It can be done. And we all know the older none computer vehicles are so much easier to work on.
I felt the same way about my first cucv,it did everything wrong it could.Than I discovered this place and learned what to expect next and fixed things before they went wrong,it still quit on me,but I bought another one and its a gem, after a bunch of work. After learning how to work on the first...
