Ok, just wanted to make sure. I'd have hated to see you tear your truck apart only to find that the info I gave you wouldn't work on your truck.
Recovry, since you are running two 12v alts is the truck completely converted to 12v? Or do you still have the 24v starter/glow plugs and the 24v...
Are you sure that your truck started out as an M1010? It was originally an ambulance that's been converted to the pickup in the pic, right? If it wasn't originally an ambulance than everything I told you no longer applies. The M1010 ambulance has a totally different charging system compared to...
Yep. The DUVAC only regulates the top alt. The bottom alt isn't wired to it at all, so you don't have to alter any wiring to it (other than swapping alts if your current bottom alt is bad). Since my truck is used for camping i planned on taking out the ac and rear heater (due to being 24v) and...
Yes, it starts just as it should every time. In fact, after setting it up this way, and swapping the bottom alt for the working one, I would be willing to do a long road trip without worry. I've had this truck since 2010, and for the first time I no longer need to carry a battery charger...
In my M1010 I experienced a front end issue. When it would hit multiple bumps or rr tracks just right, the front wheel would bounce violently up and down. I thought for sure it was the kingpin assembly. It turned out to be broken cords in the old BFGs. After swapping them for a set of 33" MTs...
One other thing you may want to buy before going to pick up the truck is a Diesel return line repair kit. The return lines have a tendency to rot and crack, resulting in a fuel leak. If you're not aware of the leak, or you know about it but don't fix it, it can lead to you sitting on the side of...
I agree with Recovry. I had a similar situation with my M1010 a couple years ago and it turned out that I had gotten fuel with a bunch of water in it. My smoke was mostly white, but the other symptoms were the same.
drhymer, I just noticed that you are also in Ohio. If you're close to the Akron area you are more than welcome to check out how my truck is set up, or if you need help working on yours I'd be happy to lend a hand.
Here's the easy fix to the M1010 charging issues... disconnect all wires from the DUVAC box and tape them up, and remove the box. Replace the top alternator with a 12v alternator of the same mounting dimensions (there is a Leece Neville 12v alt available that is identical to the orig 24v alt...
I'm looking to finally lift my M1010 in the very near future, and I wanted to see how many of you have a liftkit installed that is more than 6"? I know that I talked to someone on here a year or so ago that had done a custom lift using the leaf springs from a certain military trailer (can't...
Thanks guys! I appreciate the tips, especially about the plunger. I've done fuel pumps on gassers in the past, but I figured this would be a bit more involved than that. Here's hoping it all goes smoothly.
The other day I was at a tavern and came out to find a puddle of fuel under my truck. I figured it was just a bad return line again, but it seems the lift pump has finally split a seam. So Saturday I will be tearing the truck apart to replace it. Any tips or tricks for me other than what's in my...
Congrats, looks like a good score. And welcome to the addiction. There is no cure once you're hooked, but this is the best support group you'll find to help you deal with the sickness.
Another thing that could cause your front end issues is broken cords in the tires. I thought I had bad kingpin parts until I figd it out. In my situation if I hit multiple bumps or rr tracks in just the right way the pass front side would start bouncing up and down violently, sometimes feeling...
Bo911, the M1010 in the link you posted is set up almost identical to what I've been planning and working on in my own. Any idea where I can find more pics of that truck?
Come on Doghead, cut the guy a little slack. We were all newbies learning the ropes at one point, looking at a broke down truck and thinking WTF?!? Heck, I still get that feeling once in awhile and I've been working on vehicles over 20yrs.
Thanks for the help guys, the tank is out. It was just being a stubborn SOB for me. PWFire, my friend and I were just discussing that same option today when we got it out, although his suggestion had been one from an S10 Blazer. I already have a large replacement tank that I'm going to mount in...
I thought so, I've just been having issues getting it to drop out after I removed the straps and fuel line/gas gauge wiring. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going about it wrong. Thanks for the info!
