Xylene is a powerful solvent for many organic substances. It will readily dissolve most paint, synthetic plastics and elastomers. If you use it, avoid getting it on these materials.
Yeah, sewerzuk and me! My errant nut was loose under the gear cover on a freshly depot reset 003a:

For my situation, only removing the gear cover and carefully checking (a lot of...
+1 on crow's foot. If I'd had one kicking around in the bottom of my toolbox, I would have tried it. I think when using a crow's foot, actual applied torque will differ from torque wrench setting, so calculation/adjustment to wrench setting to compensate will be required.
Hi Crawdaddy,
Table 1-1 in Chapter 1 of TM-34 is the table that contains torque specifications. It states the torque spec for the injector nozzle mounting screws is 17-18 ft/lb. I was not able to find the torque spec for the nuts that hold the IP to the threaded studs on the cylinder block...
Hi LuckyDog,
Thanks for testing the compression testing adaptor I made for you, and for letting us all know it works OK.
Is there any change that can be made to the adapter design to prevent the need to partly remove the intake manifold when installing it in the #2 cylinder head, or is this...
It is a sound policy to change oil and filter upon receipt of any machine, regardless of machine type or oil appearance. It is good, cheap insurance.

I think the correct answer about whether or not to drive the ground rod depends on how you intend to hook up the generator.
Please read this thread:

Wet Stacking
I think I read a post herein that stated MEP002a and MEP003a generators are not very susceptible to wet stacking because they are air cooled. I have never experienced wet stacking with my MEP003a, but this could be because I have never run it without at least 20% load for more...
This thread was a good idea; the results should be very helpful.
I recommend that potential purchasers download and read all the applicable TMs (including those for the trailer if applicable) prior to purchase, and also read this sticky, the Wiki and all of the posts in this section of the...
SandBar,
Congratulations on getting your generator and printers home intact! If your MEP002a was mine, I'd change all the filters and canister gaskets (and carefully clean the canisters) just to have the piece of mind from knowing where I started on preventative maintenance. Maintaining a...
Sewerzuk,
Thanks for your response.
Yup, certainly anyone that has done a lot of splitting knows that splitting by hand with an axe is far faster than any other method. It's really sweet to look at a chunk of wood, figure out the best place to hit it, and get nearly instant feedback and...
Sewerzuk,
I am in absolute awe of the electrical/electronic, engineering, welding, fabrication and machining skills you demonstrate on all of your projects. Well done! The 002a engine does not even sound like it is laboring! I split about 4 cords of mixed aged hardwoods myself last fall...
Congrats on your 002A acquisition!
You will find a lot of very nice and extremely helpful folks here who have "been there and done that" with these units. Reading here and realizing the extensive expertise available ultimately resulted in my decision to purchase. Afterward, the folks here...
Congrats on your success!
My OO3 load tested OK with the timing one mark early on port closing, but it was able to recover more quickly from a sudden heavy load after I installed the timing button required to get port closing right on the money. At the same time, I finally got the governor...
Motorcycle mufflers, eh? 2/3 noise reduction, eh? I'm intrigued. How expensive are these mufflers and how do they bolt up? Do they increase exhaust back pressure?
I don't particularly mind the noise, but these units with as issued mufflers ARE LOUD. I never run mine unless I'm wearing good...
Hi Carl,
Thanks for your response. It's good to know your Rockford does just fine on 208 volts. You really lucked out. Making a new vise handle should be very simple. It was quite a gamble for you to invest the $ in 30 gal of hydraulic fluid just to confirm it works, but you were committed...
Hmmm...I think you might see pressure without a check valve if you used a pressure gauge able to react quickly enough to the pressure pulse from the compression stroke, but this pulse might be of such short duration while running the starter motor that even if you had a guage that could react...
Rick, we appear to be about 80 miles apart per Google maps, but the run takes nearly two hours since all the good roads are oriented wrong. It is much shorter in straight line "as the crow flies" distance, but it's the typical Jersey "can't get there from here" scenario for NW to SE travel...
Rick,
Bring it on! :grd:
Seriously, If you ever need something, PM me and we may be able to work out an arrangement. To gain experience, I would happily consider taking on any machining project within my skill level and the capability of my machine tools and inspection equipment. Since...
