I believe that if a VIN number is clearly not from a MV and the vehicle is misrepresented as such, it is a fair warning that was given. It was not a quality or condition comment.
I wonder how long vehicles sit on base with no use. I am only guessing from photos, that the larger rock they are parked on helps keep the tires from rotting in mud or damp ground. Solar chargers were added to keep batteries alive. I know the mileage on military vehicles can not be considered...

What is the fuel consumption on a 923? Does the automatic tramsmission have good reliability, or are the hard shifts reported earlier in this thread typical (and destructive)?
3dAngus, the military has the money to buy replacement vehicles, or they would not be "surplusing" these trucks on GL. He needs a work truck for a business. They are cool. They are a great hobby. I don't believe they can make him money, even if they cost less to aquire. What will his profit...
My point is that you could probably lease a brand new truck that would fit your needs for less than your costs to aquire and maintain an old military truck, if you depend on it being available every day that you need it. Your customers do not want to hear that the job is not finished because...
Sorry, I had to. The point is, these are old trucks, sold at the end of their usefulness to the military. If the purchase price really reflected the "useful" value the price would be much higher, and the availability much lower. The "big" companies would be using them for the major projects...

My guess is a starter issue (see above suggestions) also damaged your ring gear on the flywheel. Remove the starter and have someone turn the crankshaft slowly while you use a good light to view all the teeth. If there is not an area or areas missing teeth, it is just a starter problem.
