It seems at first glace that the belt might be slipping. Any noise? Does it need replaced? There is a lot of drag on an alternator pulley that is putting out its full charge.

Really, the troubleshooting guide that mistaken posted is a great place to start. One plug disconnected will over voltage the other plugs. The glow plug controller will attempt to limit this, but understand that is a stop-gap measure that the controller performs.

For example:
Was the ignition switch turn to “run” when you did this?
Was the truck running when you did this?
If so, how long had it been running?
When you say “buzz” what is that like? Was it clicking in and out, or was it just clicking in and staying in like normal?
1 From where did you take the 12v from?
2 How soon (in seconds) was it between the time you started it, and when you jumped the solenoid?
3 Do you have your glow plug controller installed?
Can be done pretty easy. Anything that will conduct with a similar resistance will work in theory. So even just a resistor there would work.
Cleaning all connections is a great place to start, fixed so many problems that way.
