Grinding sound when brakes applied right rear area humvee

I'm not sure about a civilian part #, but according to the Hummer Knowledge Base the AMG seal kit part number is 5744403. That might help track it down. http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/brakes/rebuilding_rear_calipers.pdf http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/brakes/rcr.html Bulldogger

Grinding sound when brakes applied right rear area humvee

With that description I'd remove and clean/rebuild the caliper piston assembly. Probably needs a new seal after cleaning gunk out. BDGR

    Advice in buying a Humvee

I had the same thought. This should be taken as warning that the seller has done little, if anything, to improve its condition and any claims of "I replaced all the fluids and fixed the xyz", or what not should be treated with suspicion, if the seller makes such claims. It seems like a lot of...

    Soft top from scratch

I wouldn't trust the adhesive myself since it is intended to stick to flat fiberglass or aluminum siding on RVs. I'm sure it does a decent job for which it was intended, but anytime I use something in a non-standard application I like to over-engineer it. In that case I'd use rivets or drill...

    Soft top from scratch

tobyS, just to share, I was searching for rain channel weatherstripping or something like it and discovered a product from TRIM-Lok that is a peel and stick PVC plastic rain channel just under 1" tall. Might be of interest to you. It's available on Amazon, search for TRIM LOK Drip Rail. I...

Need info, corvair powered vehicle identification

He is either very busy or distracted, which can be true and forgiven to some degree, or he's courting a less-savvy Rube to try to sell him a pig-in-a-poke. Either way, better to stay calm and detached. BDGR

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I've been thinking about mounting civvy wiper blades DREDnot, yours look good. BDGR

Need info, corvair powered vehicle identification

And one MPH in still water top speed... Might have to add an Evinrude to the rear deck, but still, VERY cool! BDGR

    Humvee voltage out put

Between 27 and 28, the manual says 27.something, I can't recall the exact spec. The TM explains how to adjust the regulators (depends on which alternator/generator you have). The 60 amp regulator is a snap to adjust, in my experience. BDGR

What Used to Be on my Hood?

Mine reads '96, since that is the year I graduated college. BDGR

    Interior storage ideas

Looking forward to seeing how you do it. Have had similar thoughts myself but got worried about the amount of mods needed. BDGR

How do you stop a m809 if the brakes fail?

My first impression was to kill the engine, but a diesel can keep going if it can pull hard enough on the fuel source and especially if it has an engine driven mechanical pump. Aim for a row of Prius' I guess... BDGR

    Oil pressure gauge issue

Disconnect, clean and reconnect all electrical lines. Is your dash well-grounded? Have you a grounding kit? Bad ground causes a lot of troubles in these rigs. Bulldogger

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

If the replacement idler arm was a gen 1 M998A0 part, it could have easily blown out again. They are NOT robust. Definitely inspect your steering soonest. Easy way to see and diagnose issues is to put the front on jackstands and wag/wiggle the tires hard by hand while looking at the steering...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Welcome to the club! The steering play is a common fault, and almost certainly related to your drag link losing its grip on your right ball joint. I replaced my steering with H1/A1 components, to include the idler arm (all but the steering box itself), and am pleased with the improvements...

Maddawg308 had a lot of them for a good price a while back, he may still. Bulldogger

    Indianapolis HMMWV Project

Welcome and congratulations! Looks like a good start. Most likely culprit for no start, if it's been sitting a while, is bad fuel and old fuel filter. Drain and refill tank and put a new filter in and see if that helps If you have no leaks on a Hmmwv, the first suspicion is that it's out of...

    Humvee summer question

Interesting. It certainly doesn't look like it will part from the top/strip. Probably been together 32 years, I suppose that's why. I'll be sure to take a harder look at it the next time I have it off, which won't be soon since it's covered by snow right now. BDGR

Brake problem - frozen anchor pins

My Aero Kroil is just plain Kroil now, for smoe reason the cans always lose pressure well before they run out of juice... Maybe it was just the lot my can was in. I've been meaning to get a pump bottle for it, but am worried it will eat through anything I use... BDGR

    Soft top from scratch

Sounds good. I'm curious to meet one up close and think about how to improve upon it. BDGR
