    Let's talk about HMMWV paint

I used rapco on mine. But I did lay down a full green layer over the whole vehicle first, then came back and painted the camo pattern per the manual. (The previous camo on this thing was way off the pattern in the manual, which is why I did all of the effort to repaint it.) Definitely heavier...

    HMMWV - Brake question

As previously said WD-40 or similar, it's probably stuck. But also be sure to turn it when it's NOT engaged, as there is no tension on the cable (vs the upright position). I usually pull it a small bit up then spin it, as necessary.

    Cv axles

I just got the summit shafts (all 4) as backups. I figure it's cheap insurance, but maybe that is all it is. Have something I can put on temporarily, but then order the AMG part for a real fix? Any idea why it failed? Lost the boot/grease? Not enough grease internally for lubrication? etc?

    GP - continuously re-listed items

Shill bidding is illegal in most states, and these are auctions running with an auctioneers license. I would STRONGLY suggest people involved in bidding (and losing) filing a complaint in the state the auction was held in. States Attorney Generals offices really don't like shill bidding, and...

HMMWV in snow and what tires work out best

The stock goodyears were fine in the snow.. However they do tend to slide on stops (since the brakes can lock up fairly easily). And I agree, unless you are crossing frozen lakes.. studs are generally not necessary. Just have to drive slow.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Losing the stud, did you lose pressure as well, or everything else held the inner o-ring in place? Should be pretty easy to pound it out and put in a new one with the tire on -- but I'd definitely remove the air as a safety measure.

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

Part of the reason I went with wigsplitter was Trail Worthy was confusing "custom PVC". I don't need custom, standard rim, standard tires.. :P As for fit, with the standard 12 bolt rims, and Wrangler MT -- the wigsplitter are 'tight' but not unreasonable. There is no way that bead is going to...

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

Unfortunately all of them are in the tires and are a bear to remove. However, I can get tell you it's a blue/green PVC with an 18" O.D. pipe. Only one of the pipes has any writing on it. There was a number "1120", which I looked up and it says it's for water main/sewer usage. I didn't see...

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

Doesn't look like it's hard to make them. Just need to chamfer the edges, and then add a cutout (of some kind) for the air valve.

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

Those are the ones. It was definitely cheaper them me trying to do it myself. (roughly for a set of 4 the cost of another tire.)

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

Thanks. Combination of the sunshine and setting the tire on top of the PVC insert. The first two went much easier then the last two (as the sun set and the tires got colder.) I will tell you disassembling, cleaning, painting, reassembling.. all without air-tools. It is one hell of a...

    NJ Humvee insurance

I have progressive, and the 6-digit serial number is my state VIN. I did have to send them a copy of the title, but all of the paperwork and insurance cards say "AM GENERAL - M998 - XXXXXX". So at least at a high level there should be none of this having to pad the number in their system...

Is there anyone doing the VIN searches anymore?

I don't know if non-US Citizens can file a FOIA request. You might need to see if an citizen will do it for you. (I've never read the limits of the law on that.)

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

lol I'm only going to do 4.. I think the 5th would kill me. :) We'll see if I can get this done by the weekend. Figure I can only handle one or two wheels a day (after work).

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

"How to do this" (12-bolt rims w/ the alignment hole) 1. Put the tires in the sun and let them bake so they are more pliable. 2. Take the tire and figure out which side you want the outside to be. If it's NOT the side with the paint marking, then find the side with the paint and transfer the...

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

HAHAHA I found this one on YouTube. Definitely a 'different' way to do it. "YEET!" PVC beadlock install Had to share it cause I got a hell of a laugh from this. I may try something similar though, lube up the PVC insert and bead.. then _SET_ the tire on top and push down..

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

I bought it pre-made. 7" side to side, and it fits over the 16 1/2" rim... My current plan is to try to find a helper.. then use the compact utility tractor to push down on the tred (with the tire on it's end). I tried this by myself and the bead didn't move apart, but I think with a helper...

New Goodyear Wrangler MTs appear to be available again

Going to put them in the sun in the morning, hopefully they'll loosen up over the day. I do have a small Kubota BX26 series tractor with a bucket.. so with someone else I can push down in the tred of the tire while they pull the bead apart. That MIGHT let me get the PVC in (along with the tire...
