    Runaway Deuce engine

Also to consider: - a "runaway" is an engine that revvs up ungoverned because it runs on an alternate fuel supply, rather than the metered, controlled fuel supply that is normally used. An example is the Detroit feeding on crankcase oil that @Floridianson mentioned, or a conventional diesel...

    One of my dream trucks!

Well, the mechanics of it won't scare you. Great opportunity to show some "plug in the tablet" newbies what old school wrenching looks like. I see the oily residue on each wheel...... if she is complete she will likely run and drive, but needs the usual attention to wheel brake cylinders...

And I Thought Their Cars Were Ugly...

Don' t mind the van (they are a utilitarian post-WWII design intended to be cheap to make with straight panels and easy to maintain and fix) but wow...the price.....

    M108 deuce wrecker engine swap

That will be one nice truck! It always amazes me how intricate the solutions to some demands were; today you would install some short LED light bars that turn night into day. Back then there were the bracketry and swing-out arms for the work lights that were nowhere near the brightness of...

Can't get the engine to idle

https://www.chinahanji.com/01_hd90100.htm I bought mine directly from them. I am sure someone, one of the vendors, imports them, but don't know.

    New to me SEE

You SEE looks as new as they get! How many hours? Does it have all the crazy attachments, such as the chain saw?

Folding ladder for front bumper ideas.

My gripe with the military folding step is the pin/cotter pin. In normal driving, the step should be in the up-position, in case you hit something. So, to use it, you have to fold it down and pin it first. Guaranteed, at some point you leave the pin and cotter pin out and they dangle from their...

Folding ladder for front bumper ideas.

Not sure a ladder is a good choice for the front; real estate is rather at a premium. What I could see is improving the hard mounted steps with an additional cable step. Something like this: https://www.buyersproducts.com/product/cable-truck-step-772 The step is mounted on galvanized cable...

Can't get the engine to idle

As an added insult, the Chinese manufactured HH have an improved button and clip that are beefier, better made and seem much less prone to falling off.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

I learned that the hard way when I switched over to the new rims and tires. Let's just say, when you have the choice between a small pail of tire soap/goop and an insanely big pail of tire soap/goop, buy the insanely big one! Sent from my SM-G991W using Tapatalk

Can't get the engine to idle

Depending on the clarity of your injector return lines, can you see air bubbles with the engine running? While I recommend following the decision trees in the manual, methinks air leaking into the fuel system is high on the list. Once fuel flow picks up at higher rpm the injection pump can...

Can't get the engine to idle

As for easy things to check: - sticky fuel shutoff at the injection pump. If it is fully stuck, engine won't start but if it hangs up a little, it may cut enough fuel to not let it idle properly. That is the lever behind the small lid on the side of the IP. - you said you changed the fuel...

    Help with side mirrors…

My only consideration would be whether you do a lot of tight forest trails. Then the older elephant ear mirrors are easy to fold in. The West Coast not so much and you whack the crappola out of them. Otherwise, West Coast wins for all the mentioned reasons. Sent from my SM-G991W using Tapatalk

New to me Deuce with matching trailer - wrenching post

The air pop off sound that you hear after shutdown (usually some 5-15 mins after) is the air pressure regulator valve ("the air governor"). Normal and one of my favourite sounds the truck makes.

    Looks very clean.

    M49 deuce generator sourcing

The idle speed is adjustable. Being a fuel truck, I do not know if it has a throttle in the rear that might be partially pulled. Better check that. Otherwise: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/how-to-set-deuce-idle-speed.124629/ The "turbo kits" are still available from vendors. It contains...

    Got my new deuce!

I was basing my observation on PXL_20220311_135506617.jpg There is a big black blob on the top of the differential. I looked at it again and I cannot actually tell if it is oil. Maybe paint? Maybe just road gunk? Anyway...have a look. Might be nothing. Doing the seal there takes about 15 mins...

    Charlie's Deuce Thread

I like that you kept the boxed in front bumper. It is a useful upgrade and looks sharp. Is it just a step or did they put storage into it? If not, that would be a cool project; two shallow boxes with a lid for the chains, shackles and recovery straps!

    Got my new deuce!

Exciting! The pics really do not show anything of concern. The rearmost pinion seal looks like it is leaking a bit. The chassis is super clean and rust free, as you said. For your own sanity, I suggest to split this into two separate projects: 1) the truck (engine, suspension, chassis, seals...

    Canadian MLVW wheels

@m1010plowboy Thank you for the info. I have seen two semis this week with MLVWs and was p'eed off because I had not seen any for sale for a while. That explains, why. Great use of taxpayer money to send them to the crusher instead of letting people buy them individually. Well, hopefully we can...
