If there is that much slop, it might be worth checking the pinion bearings, too. Otherwise the new seal will start to leak in short order.
Look at this thread for a few tips: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/rockwell-pinion-bearing-help-please.156915/
If you end up needing bearings...
Most people use DOT air line for return lines without problems. Make sure to use the brass inserts in the ends of the line. They look like little trumpets and prevent the compression nut from cutting through the line.
You can be...um.. detail oriented and get the correct ferrules. Or you can...
@montaillou Truck looks good with the new shoes. I like the solid wheels as well. They do look like steelies but I gather they are aluminium. These tires will not be challenged with the weight of the truck! 11R24.5 are so common at truck tire shops. Wise choice for future-proofing.
They look good! Hereabouts one would risk a ticket if the additional flood lights did not turn off. They definitely need to have their own switch. The light pattern on the headlight looks sharp. Very nice.
@Elijah95 Thanks for the follow up and the pictures! Clearly, it was having a beer that led you to the breakthrough. Good man.

I've rebuilt a multifuel. I am not claiming to be an authority on the matter.
You can get a piston and liner and do it in frame, pulling head and oil pan.
Before buying any parts I'd open the engine up and see what's what. There is a risk of metal having gone elsewhere and clearly you'd take a...
@V8srfun FWIW, I went through that when I did one of my first oil checks one Spring. "That oil looks awfully thin!". Smelled dipstick "could be diesel smell..maybe..." OMG. Fuel in oil..WTF.....
Oil sample taken, sent off....
NOTHING wrong. Nada.
Purely in the head (the one between the...
This is a thread I found: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/reviving-a-multifuel.124585/
I have never revived a crate engine/preserved engine but dealt with unknown takeouts.
- using starter or wrench verify that engine turns over. If it doesn't, stop here; there is not going to be a...
I think it's a Delco 21si. Also, modern alternators may not be rated submersible but they sure get mounted in terrible locations where they are regularly soaked...and they still work.

I put in a Wolverine 24V alternator. Never looked back. Some complained about crappy service from the company. I never had an issue. Some fabricated their own bracket (really, does not look too hard if you have fabbing skills) and used an off the shelf 24V alternator. Power output to weight...
I adjusted the stops - but to allow more angle. The position they were in was unnecessarily restrictive. I have no rubbing or other issues with the kit.

Deuce stock wheel: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/deuce-wheel-width.35729/
In short - on stock wheels, dualled, 12.00R20 are too wide to be run within spec. You...
We have a good 2ft of snow on the ground and Spring thaw is still weeks away! Then the soil has to dry so I can actually park her on the grass. Weeks and weeks to go! :-(
