Why are the seatbelts still attached. Go under with a propane torch and heat the nuts. Have an assistant hit them bolts with the impact and remove them. I see pictures here of cab interiors repainted and the seat belts all taped up. Hey not my truck but wanted to mention it. It looks great. A...
My advice. If you have the engine out and on the floor. Do the heads and head gaskets. I agree that the bottom end looks good, but I never removed a cylinder head from a 35-year-old engine that did not need new head gaskets. Head gaskets have come a long way since 1980's. Here is a post I made...
It is just 2- 1/2" bolts. It should require a 3/4" x 1?2" drive shallow socket and ratchet. Optional would be a cordless 1/2" impact and 3/4" shallow 1/2" impact socket. Remove the 2 bolts and lightly lift the transmission center adapter with a jack. Just slightly and remove the rubber mounts...
I had rusted thru exhaust manifolds on Mr. Rusty. I torched the heads of the bolts off and the shoulders of the bolt under the hex would not allow the manifolds to be removed. Since the manifolds were junk, I melted them back further and used a cam style bolt extractor with no problems. I have...
Body bolts? Or body mounts? I replace the body mounts and the bolts. There is nothing special about the bolts. getting the old ones out is the special part. But patience and an impact will do it. DO NOT RUSH THEM. Let me know I can explain.
WOW. I can't even watch. Bio clamping anything and grinding is painful to watch. But from the looks of it the clam shell is scrap anyway. I use a 3/4" piece of plywood and jack up on the oil pan and flywheel cover. I have not dented one yet. A dent is not a big deal. But if it is caved in that...
I did the brace and redesigned the transmission crossmember after crushing 3 of the stock crossmembers on my Terminus M1009. I never crushed this crossmember and I ran 4 x 4 1/4" steel angle on the bottom frame flange bolt it fast. I used the paint I had in the shop as I always do on projects...
I know of diesel injection rebuilders in my area that will not do retail sales. They will only deal with professional shops. I get my nozzles tested there and get a few diesel related parts from them. Right now, I know that the stock fuel filters are hard to come by. I have a few in stock but I...
If it is on Facebook and Google it has got to be true. Just post a picture of a new truck on Facebook and say you just bought it. See and read all the comments. I dropped out of a few online groups because I felt like I was in a negative world and knew 90% of the stuff was untrue and inaccurate...
I work at Wabash, and we assemble truck bodies for large leasing companies such as Penske, Ryder and other large trucking firms J B Hunt, Old Dominion to name a few. The parts supply shortages are a true and real thing. I have worked there 32 years and we have new truck chassis that arrive 3-4...
Would you recommend I spray that or brush it? I get crap from a few people because I brush paint barns and outbuildings. I feel that I get an eyeball view of the entire surface with the brush and get a solid even coat on every square inch with no overspray and nasty equipment to clean. I can...
Doing the insulation in my barn sure has turned up a lot of parts from vehicles past. I found diesel Chevette parts and Isuzu diesel parts. Mostly bolts and small parts that I will never need again. I did find a brand-new Mile Marker inner lock out hub assembly. It is made to fit the CUCV...

This the part number I have used on a dozen CUCV's. It always fit and worked. And as far as I know I have not had any engines falling out or any issues at all. I used this kit in snowplow CUCV trucks, Blazers, and every CUCV I ever rebuilt...
I am in my barn doing some insulation. It is 2 1/4" black hi density foam. It will do the job. After working in the garage/barn for over 30 years I am doing some much-needed updates to the structure. Electric and insulation are on the list first. I set a goal to get 1 section completed each day...
I found this owner's manual in a 1986 M1009 I bought back in 1996. This is the section on cleaning the diesel engine right from the GM owner's manual.
I liked the spark arrester part.
Costly engine damage is the point here. Starting fluids work however only when used in moderation. Some...
Today I was up bright and early like normal. I checked all the fluids and I fired up the M1028 in 20*F. I left it warm up about a 1/2 hour while I stacked wood. Wood has consumed my time the past 2 weeks. But with heating oil at $5. + a gallon this wood is money in the bank. I ran to a sawmill...
We use the Awesome stuff from Dollar General all the time to clean up brand new trucks on the assembly line. We spray the aluminum extrusions and all with it. Now if we were to soak it and let it sit, I cannot vouch for the results. But I agree it is inexpensive cleaner and seems to be very...
It is a 15MM hex head bolt. M10 X 1.5. But if a 16 fit it was not tight on the hex head. A replacement bolt at a hardware store for that size bolt has a 17mm hex head. Fords have 16MM hex head M10 x1.5 bolts. Just check it out.
