Welcome to the site from Lockport NY . As far as a Deuce or a 5 ton , there is a LOT of information on this subject on this site pro and con . I would say for starters take your time and find the RIGHT MV for YOU ! Then buy as much truck as you can afford , with MV's it's pay now - pay later -...
And the guy with the red Chevy pickup thought he was COOL !!! LOL , MV's drive the CAR people NUTS ! Love it , way to go , BTW , should have one First place ! Bob k
Make sure you keep the pressure down on the electric fuel pump 3-5 PSI is plenty of fuel . Also remember electric fuel pumps are better at pushing than pulling fuel , which is why you install the fuel pump on the LS frame rail close to the tank , there actually is a fitting in the fuel line...
Just picked up the AN-GRC-19 transmitter and R-392 receiver , still looking for a MT 851 mount and a Dog Bone . I also have the H-301 Handset and LS-166 speaker . What would be the right antenna to use for this unit ? Supposedly , The R-392 receivers are in demand by Ham operators , my receiver...
My fix for my M37 was to put in a electric fuel pump back by the tank . I used a momentary on toggle switch , only use the pump when I need it . Usually after the truck sits for some time . A 24 volt pump is available from most of the MV vendors or Flea Bay .
What year is on the ownership documents ? you need 25 years old in NY for HX plates . Due to the weight of the 5 ton , you will need a CDL with AB endorsement . You will have to check around for HX insurance , some will not insure a 5 ton due to the weight . BTW , I would not drive around with...
One of things I did to my A3 was loose the CTIS system and went to the A2 bearings and seals . Lot cheaper . Then I put on the 395's . CTIS system is maintenance intensive in the A3 and that inner bearing is expensive . , Bob k
HX plates are "Historical Vehicle" plates usually given to vehicles at least 20-25 years old in a lot of states , which allows you to get a cheap rate on plates and insurance . The insurance DOES have some limitations on your MV usage , i.e. no commercial use , no passengers in the troop seats ...
BIG difference between a Deuce and a 5TON ! It seems the 5 tons are the deal of day right now , BUT , they are BIG for a reason . They later model A2's do run good , but now you are into a CDL and possible insurance issues and no HX plates if you were going that way . On another note the PARTS...
Don't let the Alison transmission stop you from a A3 , it's a common unit , it does however lack a overdrive gear . I am not sure about the Bio Diesel in a CAT engine , you would have to check that out .
If you want to run a "diesel mix" then you have to stick with the A2 . The A3 is straight diesel Let me say this about both engines . They are both good engines that were spec'd for the military . With the proper care you will get good life out of either one . I liked my A3 and auto ,never had...
cool truck , looks like the sheet metal is in nice shape . I think the wife is going to be a LITTLE hard to live with after that !!!! LOL , some things they NEVER forget ! good luck on the ride , I think you got a deal and a half ! bob k
Best thing you can do to your A3 is loose the CTIS system , good time to service the brakes . The next issue would be tires , I used a set of 395's and it worked out well . Never had any trans or engine problems , I guess I was lucky ? . I do agree with Wreckerman , would have loved to been in...
Bob , it's on the RS front bumper , those are the unit numbers , that's all I looked for at the time . Do a google search and you should be able to find the unit . BK
What I used is a old license plate frame that I picked up at a salvage yard . It is the type of plate frame that folds down for the gas fill , Folds down for the drive to the show ,folds up at the show
Parts wise you are better off with the A2 , only about 6000 A2 Deuce's were converted to A3's and given the ESP update . CTIS is a PITA . I put 395's on mine and it worked out well , 14.5's are hard to find . CAT motor is ok , but can get pricey for parts and/or repair . Alison and Air assist...
Sounds cheap , cut refers to the frame/body , which were cut by DOD prior to sale . The MV's were supposed to be scrapped , many were "SAVED" and put back together . That being said I would NOT buy a "CUT " 151 . Looks like all the big parts are there , has a new fuel pump . How does the MV run...
