I saw something on the second video. It looks like your right front tire was not turning properly. Like it was jerking. You could have a bad axle shaft joint in there. You need to jack up your truck and spin the tires by hand and feel for anything grabbing/jerking .
"ToddJK" had the right idea.
Don't worry. You adjust the rockers with the set screw anyway (mechanical lifters) so you will not have valves hitting the pistons. The only problem with shaving the heads to far is manifold alignment. Since this is a straight six cylinder and not a V-8 engine there's no problem here.
Yes. With the torque converter "lock-up" clutch engaged you're basically acting like a manual clutch. Since all the newer Allisons lock-up the torque converter in third gear (some will lock-up earlier if manual mode is selected) their basically an automatic "manual" transmission for the rest of...
Don't use the "artic alcohol kit" . The alcohol will eat your seals in all your air valves. Up to 1998 the transit department here had a few bus's that still used alcohol to control water in the air system. The air system had to be rebuilt every year. No one uses alcohol anymore for this very...
I know ! Isn't that crazy !!!
They told us stories like that in Tank school, but reminded us that with the newer weapons our enemies have chances were slim to none surviving a sneaky little "bastard" shooting us in the rear.
My best guess is cost. If you have to add extras to the engine to make slightly more power, that is just extra cost wasted in the military's view. Remember the life expectancy of a Deuce in combat was measured in hours, not years. Just as a side note, the life expectancy of a main battle tank...
I have a pressure gauge on my Deuce and the top brake pressure I ever had was 850 PSI. That was standing on the pedal. The average pressure was 800 PSI.
Actually, the Allison transmission in my new Chevy can handle more power than almost any manual transmission. In actuality all new Allisons can handle more power and last longer than any manual transmission. In one of my last classes from Allison they mentioned this very thing. That is why over...
There is only a few differencess between the LDS and the LDT engine that we know of. One being the rocker arms, and the other major difference is the way the Injection pump is configured. The pump allows quicker acceleration and a little better engine surge protection. I cannot prove it as I...
Driving in snow with an "automatic" transmission-ed vehicle is always easier. You don't get what I call the "clutch factor" . Thats the extra torque to the rear axle due to reving up the engine to allow the time to shift gears and still keep speed up and the jerking it always causes. I don't...
You can buy a 4.90:1 gearset from "Ouverson Hardcore off-road" supplier. They cost $1200.00 . To change out all three axles that would cost you $3600.00 . Pretty pricey .
No. It's a spray application for gasket sealing. I'll try and look for it tomorrow in the old shop. Things are pretty messed up around here right now. The new shop is really close to completion, but parts and supplies are all strewn about.
Are you trying to re-use the old driveline ?
The best way to go about "Bobbing" a Deuce is find out where you want the rear differential to be and install it.
Then you can calculate the length of the driveline.
I used to assemble "Glider" kits for IHC. They're basically a frame, (full 40ft...
