It's a shame it was allowed to deteriorate like that. I wanted both trucks at the time, but got a firm no, not for sale.
I figured you'd recognize the place. ;)
Cheers
It's all relative! Around here it often looks the same in February as it does in July - clear, dry, and sunny. It was 82* here last Saturday. Perfectly feasible beach weather. :)
Of course, it also depends on what day it is, as Central Texas winter weather is a roller-coaster ride - it's...
I have dug through my rather massive photo file, nothing found so far, but I'll continue to dig.
It is a bit frustrating at times - I have yet to identify the Army serial number for my V, so while I know where/when the 720th MP had it, and have numerous V photos from that time, I don't know...
I agree with not renaming the V. Wearing something with its original name is, in my mind, better than sending it out wearing someone else's coat.

This M715 didn't have the rear tie-downs for some reason. Unknown if it ever had them, there was nothing to indicate any had ever been there, and I don't know why someone would remove them. Maybe having tie-downs on the ends of the axles was considered to be enough, but my other trucks have...
By chance I used Sunburst Yellow yesterday to repaint the bridge plate for a friend's M37. It's what he already had on his shelf, and he wanted to use it, so....
My opinion for what it is worth is that it is a tad light in tone, but looks pretty good.
Cheers
I wasn't clear, I should have said that rib was a recognition feature of Phantom tanks made by Sargent-Fletcher. It would indeed make sense that they'd base the new pod on an already certified (and well tried!) supersonic wing tank.
Thanks for the info on the Russian "tank", looking forward to...
Fascinating piece of gear!
The main body looks like it could have been made from an F-4 370 gallon wing tank, that rib on the side being a recognition feature of those brand tanks when on a Phantom.
You have also tantalized us with mention of the other tank, the "fake Russian" one. Care to...
Either would work, though the old ones are not difficult to remove. If the holes are sloppy, you can always go to the next size up rivnut.
As mentioned above, one of the important steps for future happiness with rivnuts is never-seize goop on the new bolts. ;)
Cheers
As mentioned above, one name for them is rivnuts. Another is nutserts. Pretty easy to work with.
If yours are the front ones on the M1009, you can actually get at the back of them with a long set of channel-lock pliers by reaching up inside the body work from the wheel well. That's how I got...
There was an M939 cargo truck similar to yours in Houston when I got my M813 back c.2005. I was interested in buying it, but they were not interested in selling.
I don't remember the details, I took some pictures of it, but can't find them right now, they may be in my old computer that...
I'm being slow with the updates!
The interior light that originally came with the truck was a cheapy chromed plastic affair, dangling by it's power wire from the roof. Totally unsatisfactory!
So I painted an armour interior light green and bolted it to the roof framework. Much better.
I had...
