If your valves are worn, just replace them. Since your removing the heads anyway, just have the machine shop check the valve guides. They might be fine and the seals are just bad. Since the seals are not much on the deuce, I would have the machine shop "machine" the top of the guides to except...
Who is this "RCT" your talking about ? I don't think I ever heard of them.
This site needs a "Do Not Buy From" forum. That way bad companies like this cannot rip off our membership.
Your correct about the valve guides letting in oil. That is the classic look of leaking valve guides. Remember it's hot in that engine, so any oil will immediately start to "cake" on any surface it is not removed from. Since only air is coming in from the intake valve it will not remove the...
I know some have mentioned problems with them, but I haven't had any. Like I mentioned earlier, I lube them on a regular basis just like any joint in the suspension system. I think some people treat them like the old torque rods. Install them and forget them since there is nothing to lube. These...
Your mentioning of driving in sand reminds me of the time our "Top" sergeant got a little drunk and decided to take the unit out on a midnight ride. We had four Deuces and three platoons of Grunts. We ended up at the beach and three of the deuces went out into the surf. I was driving the last...
Before you go and start changing stuff, clean out your coolant system like others mentioned and see how it drives. Diesel engines will "missfire" when they get too hot. Basically, the fuel if cooking off before the compression cycle is finished due to the extra heat of the over hot engine. Seen...
Being a Sergeant in the Motor Pool I can testify to what maintenance the Deuce received on a "Weekly" basis. There was always at least three in the shop getting brakes, wheel seals, or tires worked on. Then there was the one getting major work done on it, like getting the engine, transmission...
Your correct about the "Zero" tolerance for alcohol (or any awareness inhibiting drug) and driving with a CDL . I still have my class "A" for a few more years. I will not be able to renew it next time (too old) . Plus the cost of the license and the yearly physicals are a pain. Normally you...
Bleeder screws seal by metal to metal contact. The thread sealer will do you no good. You need to "reseat" the contact surface by tightening and loosening and retightening several times. Your creating a new sealing surface on the Master Cylinder. You can use a small amount of "jewelers polish"...
They don't make a "pickle fork" that big. Also you run the risk of just tearing up the rubber and not removing the bolt. Since I was a mechanic when I bought my first Deuce, I did try and force off the torque rods that way with a metal wedge. After all it works on medium trucks drag links and...
I forgot to ask. That brown gunk in your filters was "algae" . Did you ever get it cleaned out of your fuel system ? It can be a nightmare to get your system clean. At the transit agency we had a base that got a load (20,000 gallons) of contaminated diesel. I took almost a year to clean out the...
Replace your fuel filters before you do anything else. That includes the one on the passenger side, not just the two on the engine driver's side. If it still runs bad we will work from there.
You know this whole idea of making the MultiFuel engine into some kind of performance engine (something it was never designed to do) reminds me of this group of 1950's car buffs that would take the Chevy 235cid engine and beef it up to around 300HP or more. They could do it. I had a friend who...
Any air tank can be installed if you have the space to do it. I have installed three extra tanks myself. Two are stainless steel ones I bought off eBay. Just needed to buy brackets that fit the diameter and installed them. Fittings are nothing to worry about.
First off. If your going to save the pistons and jugs then mark the pistons so you know which hole they came out of and put them back in the same hole. They have worn into that liner and you don't want them to have to wear into another. That will just cause excessive blowby and possibly piston...
