I haven't driven these in snow or ice as yet, though on sand and mud the AWD is not my choice. Something about the 30/70 does not feel solid. In MODE's 50/50 mix she powers through much more cofidently.
There is more than the power band to high crawl ratios. I am not the type to rock crawl...
Absolutely. We noticed that too. That may be a reason to move the potable water toward the rear rather than keeping it close to the original center of mass—
I agree. Even running the factory CTIS on SAND in MODE we never lacked for power/torque; we ran out of traction over and over. Watch the video, traction is what slowed us down on climbing the ledges. Adding a rock to reduce the 90º vertical heights, we climbed right up. We did not find...
That may be, though the ledges would still be quite difficult to climb up and down even with the reductions. Traction was our only issue, not power. We had plenty of power.
Our use case will include removing the bed (-2,800#) adding a torsion free frame and habitat (+4,000# loaded); adding...
@Ronmar thank you for confirming the braking air release. That is what I thought I noticed between Ted and I driving: He tap, tap, tapped the brakes while I tried to modulate them. It was difficult, though with practice I think I can become much better at it.
Also, yes the Jeep in 4L is...
Perhaps not in trucks this large? Though in the Land Rover Series III trucks I have refurbished we used the slotted washers and bent over the washer edges to hold the axle nuts. The force to keep a properly installed axle nut is minimal. I am having a hard time believing a properly installed...
The crawl ratio for the 3.07's is better in first gear, though the braking is really only an issue when dropping off ledges.
Even in our jeeps which have first 4L crawl ratios of 87:1 we are on the brakes dropping off the ledges.
Here is a short video coming out from a camp about 40 km down...
NOTE: seeing this is a 1994 M1078A0, the images I posted for changing the PDP to 24v only feed and adding the Victron 24v-12v 70a leaves out a step or two needed on an A0 truck to accomplish this. @Ronmar has a video outlining the A0 steps on his you2b channel—
While refurbishing our 2003 M1078A1 to prepare for our off road habitat our friend, Ted Wiborn, (@expeditionteamwiborn), came to visit us in the Texas hill country.
Ted and I have had the opportunity to off road and hike a few times in Utah to some amazing places, so we decided to test the...
The FMV paperwork is for registering in the Former Military Vehicle sub-class under Antique vehicles in Texas. It will do nothing for you if you wish to regularly use your vehicle.
For insurance we use State Farm for our not for hire regular use M1078, many folks also use progressive—
We have been camping in Padre Island National Seashore for years, usually near where I paused yesterday. Yesterday was my first visit all the way down, there are likely more folks there in the Spring. Love coming to Port Aransas and Mustang Island, too.
We would enjoy joining up with some...
Took her down to the Port Mansfield Channel in Padre Island National Seashore. It was a great day on the beach, few people and none from about 40 klicks on down. She cruised on the beach in MODE and SAND, smoother in some respects than on the interstate to get here.
25 mile (the National...
Thank you. Good advice on the order. (We have a Victron 24v-12v 70a and 4awg to make all the connections. Planning to do 1 and 2 together soon. Mounting the Victron to the inside passenger kick plate will work well); and relay—
Here is the pin out for the CAT3126b ECM, not much here.
The attached PDF may appear more clear. I haven't found fuel level or continuous air pressure in any J1708 or J1939 feeds as yet in our M1078A1.
Still searching for the Allison 3070PT pin out, and so far Allison appears to be more...
So, if I may bring this question from another thread, (and yes I have watched rronmar youtube many times):
So in an M1078A1 (>18550), over time?
1— one could simply disconnect the 12v feed from the LBCD to the PDP (TL80 TO X2); Adding a 24v-12v 70a between 24v bat (X4) and 12v bat (X2)...
