RE: Re: RE: Year from VIN for SF97 and other SF97 questions
The ID # 041 00571-0539-13124 is actually ID 04L 00571-0539-13124. Unlike Medlog, I am confident this is an ex-Army truck. The 0539-13124 is the VIn, the 04L00571 is the registration number.

I believe that light, which is supposed to be on the left fender, is actually amber. (I'll have to look at mine to be sure). It is a flashing light, controlled by a switch in the cab. It is served as a warning light that is was a wrecker (this was engineered and entered production long before...
The pressure is from the injection nozzle itself. An IP pump is like any other positive displacement pump - it moves volume (and it has a MAX pressure rating) but the pressue is actually developed at the nozzle.
Take the lines lose, the fluid squirts harmlessly. Its like putting your finger...
Guys, I've got a fair library of manuals, but I am several miles from them now.
Could someone tell me the model number of the Zenith carb fitted to some R6602 engines in G-744 five-tons (specifically, the M62)?
Once upon a time, I had this memorized, now if I could just find my mind...
Re: RE: fire
Both those photos were taken in Italy - and, the encircled star was introduced for operations in Sicily, before the Normandy invasion.
BTW, the army 6x6 tactical fire truck was developed by GI firefighters in Italy when they combined a captured German water tank, a CCKW, and the...
the correct color would be OD 319. There are folks who talk about early and late WWII colors - BUT the manufacturing records for Ford, Mack and Willys all say that their products were the same color number beginning to end.
Remember, the five-digit FS color system didn't exist during WWII -...
On related note - it IS illegal to "display" (which is not the same as "turn on") certain color beacons (and/or have affixed sirens) in many cities/counties and perhaps states. I'm involved in a fire truck club, and this is an issue that has arisen from time to time - usually when somebody does...
RE: Re: RE: 2 1/2 ton fire truck auction
I am trying to reach the new owners as this is being typed.....
John Bean is a manufacturer of large, expensive, high pressure pumps, and some spray equipment. Having spent several years in that industry - and with my dad still in that industry - I'm...
Dudes!
This is in Tennesse, and I am tapped out, but somebody needs to save this truck. This may have been used as a fire truck - but that is NOT what it was built for. It was built as a super-rare decontamination truck (also used to spray agent orange in Vietnam).
I'll post up some pix...
RE: Re: RE: Saving 6TL batteries with EDTA
My publishing agreements would not allow me to post the articles here - but I think one of them is already on line (by the publisher) - I'll look into that.

RE: Re: RE: Saving 6TL batteries with EDTA
Articles I've done on EDTA have appeared in Military Vehicles Magazine, Old Cars Weekly, and a John Deere enthusiast magazine that escapes my mind at the moment - likely one of these is on line.
I'll try to get more specific about when/where later...
Glad to help - I find this type of thing very intersting.
As for the rest of the message, your close - I'd say 99+ percent of the 5 tons did - I know where one of the original 5-6 prototypes is - and will take a CLOSE look at it in about 3 months. (If I said all five tons, sure as the devil...
RE: anybody?
I have bought obscure items from Sam Winer in the past - IIRC, I dealt with Robert Zetzer there - I may not have spelled that correctly.
Everything I got was as described by him, and shipped in a timely manner.

Gentlemen - I believe I have found the definative answer to this question. Attached is a request for a quotation for the Reo-type cab that IH sent to Reo in May 1950. Pay particular attention to the area I have highlighted. By the way, Reo responded 6 days later with a quote of 408.86 - which...
Chuck,
Great post! But, I'd like to correct the point above. Collusion on goverment surplus sales is prosecuted.
