    Hub Removal/Replace

Hey George, you could still find another truck to buy :-) NOT having to change out all four hubs and build a bed is worth a lot of $$$$, IMHO.

    Hub Removal/Replace

No doubt you are correct. What is your engine rpm at full throttle? Speed at that rpm? Whatever the rpm, at WOT and max speed of 55 for a normal truck, Georges will be at 110 theoretically. If your truck is going 40 at 1800, then 55 mph would be 2475, calculated. Is that close? thanks

    Hub Removal/Replace

George, I think everyone is being courteous by not saying this: You bought someone else's experiment. He sold it at a cheap price, probably for a reason. Elimination of a reduction of 2 (half, etc) means your top speed (given infinite hp) would be twice normal, say 110 mph. Think we can all...

    M1078 LMTV planetary hub setup

Steve, please tell us more about your 'clearance way' of setting the shim thickness. I agree there is something vague, or downright wrong, about assuming the spider pack is 2.1705" thick. They call that thickness "the mean of the hub variance measurement". All the measurements are moot if...

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Case Equipment made a suspension lockout to use on the MB-4/94. Basically it was a link with bearing to the outerhub, tied to the Case deck. During development of the SEE, there was a suspension lockout accomplished by using hydraulic cylinders as lockable links. That idea could be easily...

Assistance Needed! electronic gurus...Prm -34 test se

There's a thread here on SS that might help: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?29322-Radio-Test-Set-TS-3957-PRM-34 Read post number 7 which describes the initial test with power off. What are you using to power the PRM-34? Battery (4 AA's)? Is it good? A bad battery could easily...

M939 CTIS Reprogram, Anybody Done It?

This is an outstanding thread for CTIS enthusiasts. I can add some part numbers: Examining 6 different FMTV CTIS ECU's indicates part number 19207-12378682. One example had -002 appended but I failed to note the date on that one. Two ECU's from M939 5 tons (that I got from BFR Metals) were...

Can anyone tell me anything about this stuff?

The handsets might be the most useful pieces, IMHO. Those look like H-250/U (five pin plug) or H-350/U (6 pin plug) handsets and are compatible with any of the older comm gear using the 228/U connectors (matching the U-229/U plugs on the handsets). That would include the PRC-25, PRC-77...

    Two-unit caterpillar conveyor Vityaz

Search on Vityaz DT-30. There are lots of awesome videos of the extraordinary capabilities of these machines, often in fearsome places.

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

Good comment. No argument from me. I just know my LMTV sounds so much better at lower rpm, and mileage is better, around 8 mpg. Ok, 'I' feel better at lower rpm :-) Maybe cab noise plays a part? Plus or minus a couple of MPG does not make much difference in the single digits.

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

Hi Michael, I have used Unimog chassis' for campers for many years and still own a U-1300L with a camper on it. Guess what, it is being replaced by an LMTV with a camper. Main reasons are that the LMTV is the most drivable 'big truck' I have had the pleasure to use, and parts procurement has...

    LMTV not starting sometimes

There were two major clues: the truck does not like to start when it is cold, and the CTIS lighs blink in unison to starter drop out. Starter loads battery, battery voltage drops, starter drops, batt V bounces back up, starter relay energizes again, etc, etc. My guess, battery voltage is...

Windshield vents and roof support not compatable

I wanted to restore my LMTV to near original so bought a windshield vent for it. Logic said that the windshield will clear better with it in place. Guess what, it won't fit. Apparently the vent has to be removed when the gun mount support post is put in. See the picture. I would rather have...

    FMTV Hydraulic Fluid?

I use Tractor Supply brand Traveler universal 'tractor fluid' because that is in stock here on the farm. Five gallons is about the cost of your 1 gallon :-) The price has really dropped recently!!!

    M1079 check those hubs!

What is in a complete kit? Is a kit for one corner, one axle, or one truck? Thanks

Generator works but does not charge my batteries

My 2c. Disconnecting the battery with the engine and alternator running is a bad idea. That simple act can fry the regulator, especially a solid state one, burn out bulbs, and anything else sensitive to Jhigh voltage or spikes. The battery is a huge capacitor to stabilize the peakiness. The...

    LMTV Front Diff Pinion Seal

Hi Mainiak, Of course that pulling jig is generic, copy as you please. I did the job the harder way the first time, when the pictures were made. Don't work so much under the truck. Remove the nose of the differential (the pinion bearing housing) and bring it to the bench to use the jig to pop...

    LMTV Upgrades

Pointman, thanks for ceiling idea. I am not looking forward to summer heat. This summer will be my first with the LMTV. I have no plan to add A/C. Maybe I am over-engineering the floor plugs. I would like to duplicate the original plugs that plug both layers, the floor and the subfloor...

    LMTV Upgrades

My floorboard has that tough bedliner-type material, and rust underneath. It has been repaired in the past, too, with fiberglass, so the rust started a long time ago. Luckily the floor has not rusted badly since repaired and the fiberglass is solid. The only way to stop the rust is to remove...

    LMTV Upgrades

In case anyone else is doing this, the package of Dynamat was 36 sq ft and I ran out. 36 sq ft covered the floors under the seats (completely from front to back including floorboards) and the top surface of the hump. Still wanting to put some pieces on the back wall of the cab, inside the...
