who is near Georgia TENN border?

I'm just below Knoxville too! Wave and I'll see if I can spot you!! Seriously, if you are in GA then I'm really not close to you. Bob

Commo Gear for the GA Rally

You bet we can help you check out the PRC-10. But please help me out a little, what's an "er79"? [edit: also what is an Oe 254 ?] I got my PRC-77 in the mail yesterday and today I got it working and on the air. It talks to the SEM-35 just fine. I am lucky to have another ham nearby, my...

    HME, SEE, HMMH same chassis?

Hi Justin, I believe there's a good chance the HMMH and SEE share a lot of common components but that's no guarantee of interchangeability of implements (see below). Interchangeability never seemed to be the goal of any of the manufacturers of various add-ons for Unimogs. There are so few...

I need 5 1600 XZL's Moved From LA to FL

I just had four 14.5 x 20's shipped from eastern NC into TN and used Southeastern Freight lines. Used 'terminal to terminal' service and cost was $119...plenty reasonable and much less than fuel cost. The tires were just stacked on a pallet and not even tied down. SE Freight may not serve...

Commo Gear for the GA Rally

I have a PRC-77 on order, too. (also a PC-74B!). We should have a great time checking and 'netting' all these radios at the GA Rally! In the mean time, my SEM-35, antenna, and antenna tuner have been checked out and work great. I am anxious to compare receive performance between the PRC-77...

    Amateur Radio

I have hauled my S-250 many miles on a small commercial 2 wheeled trailer (1200 lb capacity, 15 inch wheels). The shelters are not very heavy, 800-900 lbs, and the combination seemed quite stable. Adding water tanks, batteries, and generator at bed level would actually help stability, IMHO. I...

Commo Gear for the GA Rally

The CCRadio Pocket is a neat little broadcast plus shortwave receiver but it does not cover the frequencies we'll be using. If you can get ahold of an R-442 it will be a great monitor receiver. I just bought one here locally a few days ago and was playing with it this morning. It tunes the 52...

    Military antennas for amature use

Hi Rich, That's good info..thanks! Will any of those military Shakespeare antennas fit the marine mounts with a 1" x 14 thread bases? I have a couple of those on my U-1300 but have not found proper HF antennas to fit them. I see from your signature that you are really into green radios. I...

    powering 12v accessories

Hi Rich, For ham radio the best source is directly from the 12v battery. Run both pos and neg radio power wires to the battery terminals. Don't rely on chassis ground return. Not only will you get more stable voltage without voltage drop but the power will have less radio noise. The cigar...

How do I haul a trailer without using air brakes?

IMHO a three phase personal home would be a rare thing.... ..but I might have completely misread the intention of the post. Most are simply 240 single phase, giving 2 (balanced) sets of 120 vac circuits.

Commo Gear for the GA Rally

Thanks Clinto, I think :D Last year there were several instances when we really needed good communications... but nothing worked, not even cell phones. The goal, of course, is to avoid that problem this year. We have abundant resources within our ranks. Many have mentioned CB, GMRS/FRS...

    Pinz or Mog ?

It's a Pinz, probably a 710, with Mattracks (mattracks.com). Sure does look like fun!

Deuce vs. 79,800 lb rig: Fail

Smart A$$ answer, a post can be entertaining, and deserve thanks, whether it's useful or not. The thanks is for the effort to post an adventure, not that we'd like to duplicate his lack of success.:-D He even had PICTURES!!! Bob

"Scrubbing" a 6TL battery to recover it?

An Exide battery salesman told me that one big difference between a 5 year battery and a 20 year battery is the space left at the bottom for the sulfate to accumulate in. Once sulfate builds up to the bottom of the plates, the cell is shorted. Dropping them is a great idea! That would flatten...

    Weird engine noise

Probably simple, like an injector line coming into contact with body part when the engine moves a little. If an injector line touches metal it'll make a ratta-tat-tat like a woodpecker. I have heard that many times on a Unimog Diesel when an injector line touch the engine cover. Bob

    1 Year, 6827 Miles

We've put 55,000 km in two years on our ex-mil/ex-fire U-1300 with camper, and getting ready for another approx 7km round trip out to WY,MT,UT, and CO. :p

No power EGT's up there HELP

Maybe it's the output end that's plugged? I know an exhaust brake will build EGT quickly and really kills power. Will running WMO in high cuts plug an exhaust or muffler? Bob

    12V tap off of batteries?

You have nothing to be ashamed of. You simply gave an option (search first) that could have been educational if used. Bob
