Losing fuel prime many things done already, still won't run unless bled

Mileage does not kill injection pumps. Time does. If you have diesel in the valley you have a fuel leak. Check the throttle shaft seals. You can run te engine with the intake off. It will be loud but it will run. Run it and shut if off. Check back latter and see if it is leaking. Don't drive it...

But wait, there's more: No ground for horn at steering column

I think the problem is solved. The ungrounded steering shaft comes from the truck setting for 10 years and not having any movement. The contact surfaces have become tarnished. I can move the steering shaft in and out the horns blows every time. I guess put the steering wheel back on and steer it...

But wait, there's more: No ground for horn at steering column

Oh ELL NO. NOT even an option on this project. I may as well have painted the truck with a broom and put a small block Chevy motor in it. Never would I deface my M1009 with such hacking. My M1009 is exempt from inspection but it will still have a stock functioning horn. It only take a wee bit...

    Cold Weather and CUCV's

I mulled this CUCV winter driving issue over for a while. The best plan of attack would be to park the CUCV for the winter. It has survived this long and does not like cold weather. Besides the salt and road chemicals being pounded into the seams and crevasses of the body. A few friends always...

    Cold Weather and CUCV's

For the 20 years I had an M1028 as a daily driver I never did anything special. I maintained the system in stock configuration and drove it everyday. I installed a GM block heater and stayed away from oil heaters. I ued the block heater a few times. But 90% of the time I just started it. If it...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I was on the underside of the body looking for the Dephi Packard plug that fits the 4WD switch in the transfer care. I found it cut off. I cut it while I had the body hanging from the ceiling. I managed to find another plug to fit the switch. I had to cut it from a complete wiring harness but...

But wait, there's more: No ground for horn at steering column

I am at this point now. intermittent horn operation. If I clip the ground of the test light on the threads of the steering shaft and touch the test light probe to HOT no light. The steering shaft has no ground. That is what blows the horn when completing the grounding to activate the horn relay...

No "GEN 2" Light On Power Up. How to test?

    Working like a boss.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Intermittent horn operation. I removed the steering wheel and the steering wheel will need a good scrubbing so it needed to be removed anyway. The issue is the steering shaft has an intermittent ground issue. If I clip the ground of the test light on the shaft threads it will not light the light...

No "GEN 2" Light On Power Up. How to test?

Gen 2 light is fixed. It was a bad 10 amp fuse. Imagine that. The fuse looked good and the voltmeter worked but the fuse was bad. Took a flashlight under the fuse to see the break. More a corrosive break than a blow fuse.

No "GEN 2" Light On Power Up. How to test?

Yea I read further. That 10 amp is at 7 o'clock if I were to put a crooked clock face on the fuse box. I thought my memory was failing again. I will conquer this problem tonight. Expect a report.

Power loss on hills and above 35 MPH

If you had no free play on compression of the fuel pump lever you had the right pump. But I would still open the fuel filter bleeder and crank it over. It should pump fuel. I agree with the clogged kinked line theory. If you have a straights shot steel feed line at the fuel pump someone cut the...

Power loss on hills and above 35 MPH

Off the top of my head the fuel line coming from the tank to feed the lift pump is 3/8". I made a few of the discontinued Z lines at the front frame to pump. I used 3/8" fuel line and 1/2" split loom and it had to be a wee bit longer to avoid a kink but it worked. I am sticking with 3/8" for the...

No "GEN 2" Light On Power Up. How to test?

OK. this isn't rocket science. Check that the alternator belt for the paasenger side is intact and not thrown off pulley? Belt OK? Go to two. 2 No idiot light for Generator two? Stop at auto parts and buy a couple of ata style 10 amp fuses. Take one in hand and look at fuse block...see...

Power loss on hills and above 35 MPH

When did you change the fuel pump? And what was the last thing you changed or messed with before the symptoms came on? I know you described the replacement pump. But the other difference in fuel pumps is that the correct one has fuel pump pressure immediately on depression of the lever. The...

    M1008 acquisition and restore

Do as you wish. I never done any relay or solenoid modifications in 24 years of owning them. Have I changed a few relays and solenoids? Yes. Along with a few transmissions, axles, engines, head gaskets, exhaust systems, fenders, doors, Etc. Etc. Etc. Keep them electrically stock and mechanically...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Hi/Lo beam is probably the Hi/Lo beam switch. Turn signals could be as easy as the flasher missing from the fuse box. Check it out. The fuse box should have 2 flashers. Good Luck. I have a GM turn signal switch in the box. Not brand new but darn near as new as it gets. It was switched out by...

Losing fuel prime many things done already, still won't run unless bled

I found a probably original house between the fuel tank and lift pump. WOW I know them trucks are big underneath but an original house. I would put it on the market or since its so close by I would rent it out. Tell them the upkeep on the M715 is the tenants responsibility. And putting 10 PSI...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Well let's just say all is well at base camp. I was in the process of getting the grille trim ready to install when I thought. Wait a moment. I need to make sure everything is operational. The horn and all the lights work. But the horn works then it fdon't work. I checked the connection. I...
