I agree, a junk yard swap will not have the same tranny that came out of HMMWV. There are differences.
Take yours out and get it rebuilt by a local shop. That way if there are problems, you won't have to deal with shipping which is super expensive.
You are indeed correct, the mechanics that took care of it for me said the very same thing.
I was extremely lucky to find a shop that would align it for me just up the road near me!
They found that the four bushings on the right wheel were shot, and the bearings in the right hub were also...
I did mine by myself and I am an old weakling. No helpers.
Yes, I replaced the gearbox and tranny as one unit.
I did have the exhaust and fuel tank out already since they were junk and I replaced both. So I did have quite a bit of room to maneuver.
I had to also buy an engine lift, cherry...
Don't give up. Sounds like @Retiredwarhorses is your best bet. He will do it correctly. If I were only two hours away, I would let him do it.
If not, I just went through a TH400 to 4L80 upgrade and I will give you a brief summary of the collective wisdom given to me by the wonderful experts on...
Thanks for all the tips!
I went to my normal tire shop and they gave me the name of another shop that aligns HMMWV all the time. They were nice and took me right in. The closely examine the suspension and found the right side, the one that rubs, needs new bushings on the lower and upper control...
Another question for the experienced folks here. As I mentioned on my other thread, I recently installed a set of skid pads from Jeremy Johnson. He certainly does great work.
I mentioned that when I turn the steering wheel all the way to the right stop, the right outside of the right tire rubs...
So I pass the local Tractor Supply and go inside and I see the mats. Those would work well for floor mats. I ask the cashier if they have any that are bigger than 3x4 so I could also put something down in the bed as one piece. She directs me outside where they had some substantial mats that were...
I did have another thought on how to appeal to our fantastic governor that won't look like a whiner's complaint. I replaced my TH400 with a 4L80e and I donated the TH400 to a group of vets that restore Humvees locally. They do it as therapy for disabled vets! Their problem is the same - they...
I know this is an old thread but I thought I would post my experience with Jeremy's Sliders. I ordered these back in July and he had them ready in about a month. He found very economical shipping and they did fit in my SUV.
I waited about 6 months and I am retired now, and since the Florida...
I was installing some sound/heat insulation and I got to the driver's side under the dash area and I spotted this thing pictured below. Does not look like something the previous owner installed, but what do I know? It goes inside a tube that just is opened on the other end just out of the...
I thought about writing Gov. Desantis a very polite letter about his rouge DMV I experienced when I attempted to register mine that came street legal and registered in another state. Long story, but basically the DMV invalidated my title for me.
But then I thought with all the corruption in the...
I just started my interior improvement project and just removed all the nasty floor mats and tunnel insulation.
A good friend who did this extremely well advised me that he used two layers of Dynamat, one specifically for heat, and another for sound. He then used 3M double sided tape to hold...
I see those that run down the trans tunnel. But the ones one the floor, below the brake and accelerator pedals must be different. I don't see glue or bolts or screws? Maybe I am missing the obvious :(
I tried to do some searching but I am not finding what I need, so I thought I would ask.
I may not have the correct name for them, but I want to carefully remove the interior "hush" panels, or whatever they are called. They are green and look like they are made of some kind of foam.
For my...
Sucess!
Thanks for all the help from the forum members, especially @springer1981 @Mogman @Retiredwarhorses @Mullaney
I seem to have two minor problems I found on my short test drive. Seems there is a knocking noise that changes with vehicle speed. I thought it might be something on the front...
Looks very muck like the one I just used. The part number @springer1981 kindly provided me was GM TH160 which is now a lot more than when I bought it months ago.
I figured out the pinouts based on instructions provided by US Shift.com.
The US-Shift.com controller wants .22V minimum to auto...
Thank you! I have a good soldering iron with a tip that is in bad shape so I used that it you are indeed correct - Easy Peeasy!
In case this helps someone in the future, here is what the shaft without the cam, with the pin remaining on the shaft. Problems just melt away with the knowledgeable...
