I thought you would still be subject to a 'road tax', maybe not fuel taxes however.. I always used to see truckers with signs on the back of their rig..'This truck pays $xxxx a year in road tax.." maybe just a different term for fuel taxes? Do you have the code section that says no tax for...
does that mean every time you brew up a batch of alternative fuel, you have to pay and keep a copy of the check/form or can you pay once a year at tax time but keep current records with you of brewing and use from 15 Apr last year to the present (15 Apr this year)..?

make sure you get all the applicable statutes and code sections he is citing.. and then ask another person or two in different locations, the same questions..just 'cause he's a Major doesn't mean he has ALL of his 'ducks in a row'on this.. Little details sometimes slip thru the cracks...
I doubt thats the case...I suspect the officer/trooper just didn't know his codes..happens all the time..
I never wrote a single citation that I wasn't sure that I could defend it in court.. Now the judge's interpretation is another story.. Good for you doing the research..

what specific North Carolina VC section # did you get cited for? I see above that no statute was mentioned on the cite? How can that be? You have to be able to be in violation of some official section/code/etc..

Prius Battery packs are $2588 currently...No engine/battery maintenance in 70K..(2005 model) yet..just routine stuff..currently 40-55 mpg depends on trip length.. may be going to bigger bat pack as plug-in hybrid tech gets cheaper..Toyota is looking into re-manufacturing (between recalls I guess...
