I'm slowly building my pile of tools and items to super single out my M923 with 16.00r20's.
I have all the tires and wheels but still need the shoulder lug nuts for the front HEMTT wheels, new o-rings and air stems for regular combat wheels for the rear axles.
I tried to breakdown a couple...
I'm replacing my muffler on the M923 with NHC250 (I think same muffler regardless of engine?). It's the typical rusted out around the bottom and a safety hazard. Anyone know a civilian part number for the gaskets? Or a way to use some other sealer besides the OEM gasket?
Singling out my M923 to 1600r20's. I have two HEMMT wheels for the front and the two piece combat wheels for the rears. Latest 'right' answer I saw was to buy the shouldered lugs (pic attached) on the fronts for the HEMMT wheels and then re-use the original front lug nuts for the rear combat...
The dump bed on the M929/930 is shaped differently than civilian dump trucks and has an odd gate arrangement. I'm interested in getting one to move build roads on my place, haul brush/trees to the burn pit, etc. but not sure how well it's suited for those tasks. The civilian dump trucks are...
Cam follower is cracked on my M925 parts truck with NHC 250. I want to see if the engine is salvageable so need to replace the follower before playing with it. I’m sure these are plentiful but don’t know the commercial part number(s). And any recommendations for a parts house?
I noticed on GovPlanet most of the vehicles listed have the IronClad assurance inspection that is outlined here. Looks like it just means someone working for the online auction house personally inspected the item and documented the info. On the flip side, when a vehicle does not have the...
There a number of decently priced equipment trailers that go at the Ritchie Bros auction in Dallas and Houston and I'm wondering if if I can get a one-way rental truck that has air brake connections I can use to pull it to San Antonio. I do a lot of travel for work and can easily jump off the...
From researching this on the interwebs, the 15.5/80r20 tire was only used on the PLS M1076 trailer. Maybe it also was on the PLS M1074 and M1075 trucks early on but it seems like those trucks migrated to 16.00r20s now.
The question is what are the wheels that came with the 15.50s? They look...
I know bad injectors can cause a knock but I'm lost on physically what is going on to cause the knock. I've searched the forum and internet but haven't find a good answer.
My understanding is engine knock is caused from pre-detonation of fuel that causes an abrupt increase in cylinder...
I will head down to look at a non-running truck and want to turn the engine over by hand to verify it turns freely before I try to jump start it. No idea how long it's been sitting there without a crank so just being careful. What is the best method to do so and what tools do I need to drag...
Truck is a M925 (basic 5-ton cargo truck with winch) located in zip 78361 with delivery to 78223. Roughly 155 miles one-way.
Truck reported to run fine then developed a knock, hence it being auctioned off. No idea what caused knock so truck may start via slave or jump but not confirmed. So...
I've searched the forum and TM's but couldn't find a good answer. If a M939 has completely dead batts, I know we can slave start it, remove the slave cable, and the alternator will supply the voltage to keep the truck running while also charging the batteries. Back in my younger days when we...
Moderators- advise if this is not the right forum but I believe the 5-ton forum is the right forum for this post because it deals with how to use/modify/adapt a 5-ton.

I want to buy a decent equipment trailer (GVW ~24-30k) so I can haul backhoes, mini-dozers...
I'm talking short distances and very slow speeds. Like using a 1-ton pickup truck to move a 5 ton across a paved parking lot or tow it 10-15mph down a dirt road. I know the towing capacity of today's 1-ton diesel trucks can easily tow heavy trailers on the highway that weigh as much as a M939...
I've search the forum and net but cannot find the axle length (hub face to hub face) for the front and rear axles on a M923. Really what I need is just the offset between the two as I'm trying to understand wheel offsets when singling out the truck. I don't mind mixing steel and aluminum wheels...
After reading through the forum to learn more about super-singling out my truck, I realized I should ensure I have run flats in the front for safety reasons. The rears are another story and don't really need the run flats.
So before I pull the trigger on buying a bunch of individual wheels and...
I bought a parts M925 truck at an auction and planned to tow it home with my good M923. Of course, my job just blew up the day after I paid for the truck and I'm now not able to spend the time to tow the parts truck out of the auction yard within the next week or so- and that means I'll be...
As I'm learning my new-to-me M923, I want to ensure the operating temps of the engine and tranny are within limits (and my dash gauges are accurate-ish). I'm assuming I can run the truck on a road about 5-10 mins then just take my IR gun and hit the block in multiple places to measure engine...
Title sums up the question. I understand why folks buy cargo, dumps, vans, and tractors as those all have utilitarian value in and out of the field. I figured wreckers would be one of the cheaper purchases since they have no cargo space, probably are a pain for maintenance to keep operational...
I've used Gov Liquidation many times in the past to purchase surplus machine tools (lathes, mills, etc.) for our machine shop so was quite familiar with their operation as of ten or so years ago. After reading the forum and looking at GL today, it looks like GL has evolved (or de-volved!) into...
