Mine fires instantly, every time. In fact I was relocated for a few months over the summer. When I got home all my vehicles had dead batteries and wouldn't start (had to replace one of them) but not the deuce! Although the first start it did require about a 1.5sec blip on the starter. But...
I was able to get the winch back together this evening. Interestingly enough it was more challenging than I expected. I attempted to stand the winch on its end, and lift the passenger end onto it. That didn't work. I ended up having to lay the winch down and scoot the passenger side onto the...
My stitching let go 4-5yrs ago on the recovery. I fixed it with a piece of vinyl siding with the J lip from Home Depot and a bottle of good epoxy. Once the epoxy was applied (the entire length of the siding piece) I clamped them together with a 2x4, and then applied a bead all along the front...
I was digging through my garage this evening and found a small cache of parts the previous owner of the winch included in the sale. Since the winch was rebuilt I assumed they were extra components, or parts that were replaced in the rebuild. It was a foolish assumption on my part.
The good...
Made it back into town late last week finally. Trip was great, but happy to be home. I pulled the winch today and opened it up - I think I am missing some components. This is the first time I've gotten into a deuce winch, so not at all familiar with it. I've read the TM through a couple of...
Unfortunately nothing yet. Shortly after starting this I was temporarily relocated for work. I get back in another month or so, and this will be one of the first projects I tackle when I get there.
Was the engine running before the fuel pump replacement? Fortunately there's not a lot to these, if the fuel's getting to the cylinders at the right time and the starter is turning the motor over, you generally have a running engine. Good luck!
I built mine using a steel 55ga drum. I had a flattened spot on the side from the previous owner, a small dent. I drilled a hole in it and installed a 240v heater element. It was threaded on the end and came with a foam seal and a metal knurled nut; I got it from ACE for like $15. It made a...
WB,
iirc there is a casting number on the arm. Unfortunately I am away from my truck for a while, so can't walk out to look at it. Sorry :-(. There are two different arms available, one is shorter than the other. You want the shorter one. PM gringeltaube - he is the guru of all things Ross...
Cheers Gimp. With your help I found this thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?80417-Winch-Teardown-Q&highlight=winch+rebuildd
It pointed me to TM9-2320-209-34-2-3 pages 13-45.
Thanks for the feedback and thoughts. I'll pull the winch and crack it open, the upside is I'll be more familiar with the inner workings ;-). I poked around, but couldn't find the TM for a winch rebuild - does anybody know offhand which one it is?
G - tks for that additional pic! That one...
Appreciate the inputs guys.
I shot a quick video this morning of the moving bits. Hopefully this helps diagnose. Having never owned/used a PTO winch before this is new to me. I am really hoping to avoid opening it up.
FYI - both sides are liberally lubricated with 00 grease...
It clanks quite a bit, call it 15+ times per rotation. I also find that if I lean a little on the clutch (pulling it towards "In") then the drum locks up virtually instantly.
Is there any internal adjustment on the clutch?
All good comments guys, I appreciate it. To answer:
I have actioned the clutch lever thoroughly, including rolling the drum slightly and trying again.
Brand new shear pin.
I know the PTO is engaging. When its in neutral my shaft doesn't spin, even while revving the engine. When I put it in...
I bought a Garwood winch from a reputable SS'er whom I trust. He had rebuilt the winch, but his wife preferred the deuce without it, so it got shelved. Some undisclosed amount of time later, I bought it (a year? several years?) I finally got around to installing it on my truck, and went for...
