I've thought about making an apholstered pad for the top edge and a few inches of the side of the door if for nothing other than not having to rest my arm ontop of hot metal when driving. a little foam padding would sure help with the ocassional elbow thump.
that's not mine - thats the diablo and has proven to work. If i remember right he had 2 fans to run for regular cooling and the 3rd came on with the A/C
mine will be done the same way though.
I've started using a water based rubbery undercoating available from jcwhitney. its about the same cost as latex paint per gallon and it is going overtop of an encapsulatign paint like por15 so i'm not as worried abou it preventing rust, just damping sound and vibration.
the hardest part to get around is this
(distance from fan mounting surface (forward) to radiator: 1.75")
I'm following the diablo build and using 3 smaller fans
fan clutches fail also, my old benz has a viscous clutch fan and the clutch part is $170 when it goes bad.
I plan to convert it to electric also. If you use multiple fans rather than a single fan then it adds a little redundancy to help prevent a total failure.

my first impression of the photo was that the flag was not atached to the truck due to the angle it...
I have the fans and the upgrade alternator all awaiting installation.
after a D turbo swap and an aeroturbine muffler, the fan and the transmission are the loudest parts of my deuce.
after this the transmission will be it and I have sound deadening, insulation, and carpet to help with that.
you can use this vacuum pump that runs off compressed air
Air Vacuum Pump with R134A and R12 Connectors
I've successfully gotten 24" mercury using this setup and a weak home compressor.
or try the reduction wrench from ebay - it's what I have and is amazingly easy to remove even severely stuck lugs nuts.
this is the one i have

for the water holding capacity. when used stationary you can either drain it regularly or add tubing to in another sealed container to increase capacity.
tests have shown that mixing in a percentage of gasoline (10%) with no heat has completed the seperation of the foam.
from that point pumping it through a spin on water seperator with a clear drain bowl should help eliminate it.
you could also try to syphon/drain off the bottom of the tank...
