    CUCV Bed Bolts and LMC

If you can shear grade 5 bed bolts off you are way way way past screwed! Clamp load is apx 9000 lbs on grade 5 1/2" bolts... Varying figures on shear, so i won't post them so as not to! With that said, some of the rusty factory bolts are probably degraded to the point they're way weaker than...

    m1008 shocks?

Piecing together the Cucv slowly and now looking at shocks. Truck is stock height. Truck is a work truck, more firewood and plowing than anything else (Well at least when it's put back together!) Previously had Pro comps of some flavor. seemed to be okay, hard to tell as these are sprung so...

    m1008 front differential sounding board

Been plowing with mine for over ten years and only been stuck a couple of times. Plow hung up pushing banks and combination of ice under snow. Front posi wouldn't have helped! Currently have duratracs on truck and the thing is "almost" impossible to get stuck if weight in the back! My opinion...

M1028 Tire Pressure with BFG AT KO2

Surprised no one brought up the fact that the tires are too big for stock rims (if that's what you're using). I'm also running 10 ply 285 75 16's. (Duratracs) Manufacturer calls for rim width of 7.5" - 9". (Factory rim was 6" wide although 6.5's readily available as a stock GM rim) With the...

M1008 Ujoint at wheel, front axle

Matt, My retirement job is managing an automotive restoration shop. Very familiar what cheap parts are and the failure rate that is now acceptable in the automotive parts industry. I don't use junk parts on customers vehicles as they quickly forget how much money you saved them when the parts...

M1008 Ujoint at wheel, front axle

Continuing on my down to the frame saga and slowly painting and reassembling! Put the left knuckle and kingpin components in and realized i left the upper kingpin cover/steering arm at work! Oh well, grab the axle and start to slide it in and realize the joint is partially seized. Argh, only...

M1028 overload spring questions / issue

Don't look, have everything i need! Bought the lower saddles, upper hold downs, and new ubolts. Also have the cast iron upper spacer blocks... Overloads will become somewhat moot as I'll most likely buy the heavier rear HD spring packs... Then again, to be truthful, getting too old and...

M1028 overload spring questions / issue

Thanks Rick! Pretty much looks like I'm okay! Do have the top hold down cast pieces.... Will finish painting some bits and pieces (and ubolts) and get some more stuff assembled today!

M1028 overload spring questions / issue

Rick, I do have the cast iron pieces and they're in! Springs i removed (rusty) were a double set-up, factory setup only called for one. So, someone added the second slightly higher arch spring which worked well. Block i have came from a C30 and worked with the original setup. Not sure if the...

    Alternative to Delco 27Si alternators

Outfit called Amsco Valley Forge (In NY) may be worth looking into. We do vintage auto and restorations and occasionally use them. One of our mom and pop parts suppliers was looking for a leece neville and i gave him the link and turned out they had it! Their techs are also really decent! Eric

M1028 overload spring questions / issue

PS: No comments on the nasty looking drums, that's killing me! Everything inside them is done, but outside looks like doo!

M1028 overload spring questions / issue

In the middle of a frame off (well, different frame) thrash and finally getting to the point where I've got stuff painted and trying to reassemble! Way back when i parted out a C30 and used the frame perches and overload spring for my 1008. Overload springs were a double setup vs, the normal...

    Lift kits

285 75 16 Duratracs on stock rims. Slight rub if really loaded and flexs just right with wheel cut hard. Empty its never a problem. With plow on front nver an issue, only when max load in bed! Well, it doesn't rub at all now as in the midst of a full restoration and wheels are outside, frame...

    Front Parking lights wont light.

OP stated rear brake light was not grounded properly. Rear lights do not ground through the front light socket, ground to body is in vicinity of rear light assembly.... just saying as I've btdt

    Front Parking lights wont light.

There is also a ground to the body at the rear lights. Know for sure there's one on the right side, don't remember if one on the left side. Wire is grounded behind the right side light assembly to the bed with a self tapper.

Down to the frame she goes!

After surfing the web i came across some bogus info and decided to start digging through the boxes of parts to find the rusty body bolts. 1/2 x 13 x 4" long.... (thanks for the reply rick!) Mcmaster will be getting a order once i figure out most of what i need! Now that the frame and cab are...

Down to the frame she goes!

So, the saga continues//// After a hot and medically challenging summer I'm back to it! Ended up with another frame and cab (thanks Rick!) as mine would have required a LOT of work (easy button?) Frame, cab and all the parts on hand were treated to a day of dustless blasting and were promptly...

    M1009 headlight options?

I've got the Hella glass upgrades and they were a substantial improvement over stock! Think they were around $100 for the set. My truck only gets 1500 miles a year, so couldn't justify the more expensive lights! Eric

Down to the frame she goes!

So, cab coming off tomorrow after work! Other stuff going on and this miserable heat has led to some procrastination! The truck makes it to the "shade" around fivesh, right about when i get home from working on other peoples junk at the shop! Not a real good recipe for motivation..... Wedding...
