bottomless goo...
"that stuff" appears to be muskeg.A mixture of mud, silt, and dead plant matter, several meters deep and covered with a nice deceptive layer of grass and mosses and broken up with the occasional island of trees and small lakes.
"bog" and "swamp land" can't begin to describe...
dual alt hookup
shelter...I'm not certain exactly what would happen.I got different opinions on what would happen from several alternater and auto electric shops i talked to locally...concensus was that the top alternator would still function to some extent,as it would still need 24-volts to...
disolving 6.2
i'm more concerned with the long term effects on pump seals and the like...a 6.2 with it's high compression will probably love a good high cetane fuel combustion wise.Especially since low lubricity, low sulfur diesel is on the way or here already. We could always use a good diesel...
wiring...
shelter...I was also nervous about all the left over wires.however i don't recall offhand seeing any wires from the twinput going into the cab.maybe your'e harness is a little less molested than mine was?
The only wiring i can recall is the charge meter wire that comes from the...
fuel prices...
If you think diesel is pricy now, just wait till the Iranians start blowing up oil tankers again...100 bucks a barrel is not very far away...
I can't seem to find a-lot of info on 6.2 diesels and how well they'd take b-100,homebrew bio or WVO. any thoughts?
Homebrew bio is likely what i'll end up with (at least in summer).
equalizer
shelter...thats exactly what i did...took out the top alt, removed the duvac and twinput.I left the wiring in place for now,as i don't want to chop the harness to much yet. When i get back to it i'll meter it all out and decide what can be safely abandoned in place.
I'd also...
Maybe we can get the U.N. to come up with a deuce for oil swap...since our guys are now getting shot at in afganistan,we need to update our fleet!
It just has to be strong enough to fend off the occasional axe wielding afgan... :)
Shelter...You can usually tell if there's been a repair by any obvious welding behind/around the steering box.also, typical kits have doubler plates that reinforce the frame around the bolts that secure the steering box to the frame, and acordingly, longer bolts.
I don't have an answer as to...
try these guys... WWW.offroaddesign.com
Lots of stuff for GMC's,including a really rugged crossover steering setup.
Their steering brace is a virtual bolt-on item.
decodeme...the gadget that senses battery voltage is the little rectangular box that mounts just behind the blue box.The little black box is the Twinput regulator.it's all solid state.get a new one(good luck)or find an NOS piece that works. The blue box is the DUVAC.it's a high current capable DC...
Mangus...no worries...i get the same thing a-lot.You should have seen the look some "experts" gave me when i was searching for a battery equalizer."You want a what?"
(insert involved explanation here)Their response?  My response? aua
Finally found what i wanted at...
Mangus...Your correct,all cucv's came with dual alts,however the m-1010's and apparently a few 1028's,came equipped with dual 28-volt leece/neville alternators at 100 amps each.
The wiring for this particular charging system is different in many ways from a standard cucv, the alternators are...
I read your original post a little closer ,decodeme, and realise that you do ,in fact, have the m-1010 charging system in your 1028.This is a little unusual,as very few 1028's were ordered with the 28 volt dual alt system.
Any charging fixes for your truck will be the same as for an...
congrats on a fine purchase! And hello to all...recently purchased an M-1010 myself. A couple q's...are the yellow and orange wires you mentioned connected to a blue box under that cover?Do you have two large 28-volt alternators?(they would be stacked atop one another on the passenger side of the...
