Nice to hear some people could step up. I don't have the room at the moment for even the HEMAT I have to pick up on Friday, so it has to sleep on my trailer until I get rid of some junk. :cookoo:
Not much power, I had one in a cabover with a 30' rollback bed a few years back. They are reliable but really could more fuel to make reasonable power. 30 years ago we had one in a dump truck and with a bigger turbo and more fuel it made easily in excess of 400 hp.
My EUC came in on the M989A1 HEMAT trailer so next Friday I'll take some pictures as we load it on our gooseneck trailer at JBLM. :jumpin: :cookoo: Can't wait to get it behind the HEMTT. Even Jane looks forward to towing it up to the Arlington Airshow.
I agree Justin, I've been thinking about a retrofit Diesel into the Scorpion. Gosh, I happen to have a low mile 5.9 sitting above the garage. A high rpm kit and it would be wonderful upgrade. The 4.2 works a bit too hard. Don't get me wrong they haul ass, but Diesels are designed to run near...
I've been told, by a VERY well read Brit. that the block isn't the same, nor are any of the moving components within it. It is a Military only engine that makes 195 hp as opposed to the 260 HP of the civilian engine. On the CVR(W) there is a rev-limiter but the CVR(T) came without them.
Pretty much all of them. A Diesel was offered much later during rebuild, they didn't have a 5000RPM Diesel when the vehicles were made. It is my understanding that the 4.2 Jaguar engine is BASED roughly on the civilian version but few if any parts actually interchange. aua
The Scorpion is about the same size as a HMMWV, so it's small. The REALLY thick aluminum armor helps a little bit but mainly because they didn't have to add internal bracing.
Spartans and all the other CVR(T)'s are pretty readily available. A nice bonus is that any in that series fit nicely...
The main downside to the 432 is the weight. Would you have the room to play with it at home? If not, do you have the resources to move 30,000 lb vehicle? I wouldn't be interested in a B81 powered gasoline gulping monster, I'd opt for the RR K60 multifuel engine. They have the same general 6...
:roll: Well Skippy, you can think of yourself as my keeper. But, you ain't my brother and you know where to put your opinions concerning your IMAGINED views on my behavior, where you have ABSOLUTELY no knowledge whatsoever.
Refering to "civilians", I was refering to non uniformed...
I stated in the next sentence there was no ticket. Frankly I didn't think I was speeding, I actually doubt it very much. I think it was his excuse to stop me. Then he didn't want to see ANY paperwork including my license. It was the same cop who stopped on the road by my house and saw my...
Well Matt, please inform me where my Scorpion tank isn't road legal. Washington State DOT doesn't seem to agree with you. They were worried about that it might exceed bridge weight and tear up the roads. My 8 ton Scorpion does neither, it has all lights, horn and insurance. Surplussed...
I've been offered T-72's before, at about 58 tons, if memory serves, too hard to move. Buying one is cheap, using one, unless you have hundreds of acres is EXPENSIVE! I had a 25 ton M42A1 Duster and at 10.5' wide it was a pain to move.
That greatly depends if you are looking at one already in the US or you are purchasing one in the UK and importing it yourself. I haven't seen one in the US for less than $60,000 for quite some time. Are they out there for less? Perhaps, I just haven't seen one. I'm not current on the prices...
There is an Tariff schedule that WAS in place that related to armor and their parts. It had a tariff of ZERO. I cannot tell you the number as I'm away from my desk until Saturday but it has worked well for me in the past. Perhaps Alan can chime in before then.
You can use google for HTS...
