Thanks Doghead. I was just making sure that I was getting current to the connectors. I planned on testing the resistance tomorrow when I pull them. (hopefully) I hope the relay isn't bad, I replaced it with a brand new one 2 or 3 weeks ago....along with your famous "Doghead Relay Mod." Thanks...
Picked up the GPs today. Have to wait until tomorrow to swap them. I did a check each of them, well 6 out of 8. Part of the delay in checking current was that I need to finish the push button switch so I could enlist my 5 year old son. EASY INSTRUCTIONS....push, hold, let go. So got him home...
Did the switch. I know it's working because I'm hearing the click of the relay and I can see the load as the dash lights dim. Still having a heck of a time getting her to start though. I need to hit each one of the GPs to see if I'm getting current there. PO said he changed out the GPs, but that...
This would probably go better in the "What have you done to your CUCV lately" forum, but it would just get lost.
Today, I took a new set of low-profile "driving" lights and wired them up as back-up lights. My 1008 was retired into the Forestry Service (FS) and then bought by the PO who...
Copy that. Thanks. Reason I ask is because I partially burned up the controller card in my 1008 the other day. I have another on the way, but I don't want to install until I am able to fully diag all the wiring. So I was looking at this as a temp measure (a lot quicker to splice in and ad a...
I went ahead and pulled the cluster. It needed a lot of cleaning anyway. Unfortunately the 33* weather made for some brittle plastic. Oh, well, nothing too important broke. Thanks for the chime though. I'll remember for next time.
Two questions:
First, What is this?
If you can't tell, this is just above the heat control. The dash area there is normal, it has has the volt meter and that's it. When I pulled the dash to do some other work (that question is next) I found this stray bulb socket. You can see just behind...
Thanks for all the info. I'll put a hold on this thread for a bit until I take care of the items covered so far. Don't want to get too far ahead. I just placed a huge LMC order, so once that comes in and I catch up the work, I'll report back.
Thanks man. Yup. Gen lights are both on when I key on. After a slightly long start, they both go off. Which is a good transition point to maybe a related topic. I've only seen the WAIT light once. When I first picked up the truck, the PO said that there seemed to be a "rattling" noise coming...
So here it is. The uploads might end up being out of order. Front batt picture shows the cable from the front batt to the rear. The gauge marked on it is 4. So I guess I'll be replacing that. Any good sources on batt cable in 2 gauge? I've found plenty of 4g and some 2g in black. Next is the...
Thanks. I missed it or didn't look at the right schematic. I'm at work right now, so I'll pop some pics up tomorrow when I start tinkering around. There appears to be a "few extra wires" under the hood from when the Forestry service had it.
Thanks man. Would you happen to know the correct size or recommended size? I think I'm just going to replace all the heavy stuff and the batt terminals. I was thinking either 6 or 8.
Just picked up an M1008. I noticed, among a couple of related items, that the wire going from the front battery (batt 1?) to the rear battery is a much smaller gauge than the rest of the main cables. Is this normal? Or should all the cables be the same size. Semi-related issues....headlights are...
tbearatkin, I ended up going with that one in Brighton and it's already. I really appreciate the offer. I'm coming to find the guys on here are pretty cool with helping each other out. The choice came down to price and body. The prices between the two were the same, although the trip to Austin...
I appreciate it man. But tentatively got a truck and trailer lined up. It's actually up between a 1008 in Memphis (Brighton really) and a 1028 in Austin; yes Texas. 23 HOURS ONE WAY! lol
Thanks everybody. I think I'm just going to trailer it. Less to go wrong that way. I appreciate the insight. Hopefully very soon I'll be back on here as an owner.
