    53” tires

OK, I'll be that guy and throw out the "53s are only rated to sustained speed of 55 mph" warning. How that's interpreted for a 10 ton tire on a 5 ton truck is a can of worms that's been chewed on in several other threads. On the main topic, I've heard that the math says 72 mph at redline

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I hooked into the inboard breaker using a splitter to get power back to the wire that originally was connected to the breaker and then the other wire went to the heater.

    PTO installation on m818

You're right, the TM only says install gasket and torque the nuts to 30-40 lb-ft. Big Mike's sells what they call the "correct thickness" gasket which should space the gears correctly. I've heard it said that the gears will whine if too close and be clunky & rough if too far apart...

Is there a good preservative or protectant to use on cables?

He would do that as a preservative measure? Wonder what is in that stuff?...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

What part number was that listed under? My heater kit came with the M35 cover which doesn't quite fit and I've been wanting to get the 809 version.

Trick, functional jake brake grenade shifter

This time the adapter bushing between the stick and the grenade is made of aluminum instead of brass as it's 1/3 of the weight. I was finally able to get this new shifter and my original M813 shifter on a scale for comparison. The complete grenade shifter is 10 oz heavier. When mocking up...

    Radiator won't take fluid

Thanks for reporting back. So many posts ask for help troubleshooting and then never share the final findings.

Trick, functional jake brake grenade shifter

The stick always takes the most work. The mockup looks good and clears all the levers 😁

Trick, functional jake brake grenade shifter

I decided to make another grenade shifter for some lucky person. After getting a little stir crazy this winter and looking at my jigs and extra parts I figured it was time so I ordered up an NOS shifter and got to work. The shifter base off of this new shifter was different than my...

    Painting cargo cover?

Yes, it will work and not peel. I painted mine with Rapco and Aervoe paint about 4 years ago and it has never flaked.

    Radiator won't take fluid

No idea about the M39s, but my M809 has s quarter turn vent valve on the reservoir tank hose near the upper radiator hose that must be open when filling so that the coolant can displace the air as it fills.

    14.00 vs 16.00 tire size

Oshkosh equipment and Eastern surplus has the torque rods p/n 8728128. They probably have the springs and propeller shafts as well but they're not always identified as bridge truck parts. The component costs of all the parts might end up being more than what an unwanted M812 or M821 would sell...

    14.00 vs 16.00 tire size

The only thing I know is that many owners of bridge trucks get stuck with them when they find out they're too wide to legally drive down the road and then can't offload them to anyone else because the others already know (I guess). They end up losing a lot of money to get them gone. Searching...

    14.00 vs 16.00 tire size

Bridge trucks have at least 3 different things going on. They have spacers behind the wheels that increase the width, they have different wheels for the 14.00-20s, and they have torque rods that are 3" longer that end up spacing the rear axles 6" further apart. If you want more clearance...

    M813A1 transmission.

This is another view of the same. It's such a sweet setup that I saved the pic for future reference.
