Here are some of the parts I designed and had laser cut at work. The gussets are missing but you can see the stowed mast base mount, the boat winch mount, the end stop hoop, and the new top cap for the trolley.
With the base frame done, next up is the lower mast which needs its diagonal...
My big project for this year was to build a davit crane to handle my 16.00R20 spare tire and since Jim's price for a used crane at army6x6parts was decent enough I chose to modify an existing A1/A2 crane instead of starting from scratch.
This ISO bed davit crane was the inspiration for how to...
Well, thank you! We came out of the covid lockdowns with another kid in the family so I ordered up another NOS H-161E headset for the little guy and he's almost old enough now to keep them on during a drive. 😁
I have one of those after coolers sitting in my basement that I didn't use because I didn't want to chop my hood.
If you run one of those without a huge body lift the cross over pipe will stick through the hood just like on the M813 that @bobbed_deuces_wild (Instagram handle?) put together:
Technically it's not too difficult, but man-handling those mounted tires takes some effort. At the minimum the consensus is HEMTT wheels in the front and A2 5-ton super-single wheels in the back. Some folks opt for HEMTT wheels on all 6 positions for consistency and spare tire considerations...
From the outside I see 1 pipe with 2 flanges and 6 weld-on bungs. If you can't find one this would be like day-one type work for a machine/fabrication shop and you could get one duplicated. That's IF there's no special magic stuff on the inside.
Nice pictures! - that truck is pretty epic. Probably the first M911 I've seen a post about. I especially like the data plate about the applied rust treatment that's fastened to the rusty sheet metal 😅
Sorry, I have no ideas on the pressure issues.
If the brake system is maintained in good condition I think the statement would be "if they fail" and not "when they fail".
A few things that can be done preemptively would be:
Changing out the rubber lines with new.
Make sure all hard-line clamps have rubber isolators/pads on them
Adding a...
Side note: I like how your taillights are recessed into the bed sheet metal like a 939 series truck. Looks much cleaner than how the stock ones just dangle from beneath the bed.
The stock M817 should just have the 1 canister style filter under the fender. There is a screen in the fuel pump meant to catch debris from failed injectors but it is not a true filter.
I have no experience with these units so I can't speak for their quality but I do like the looks of them...

I had a Ford FE that was siezed up and it turned out to be a needle bearing jammed between the starter teeth and the flywheel teeth. Just saying...there could be multiple possible causes.
When they're not modified, they're always in 6x6. There's no manual front engagement switch like other models have. There's a sprag (overrun) clutch in the t-case that let's the front sorta freewheel until the rear axles start spinning faster than the front and then it engages. The...
I was just there a month ago with my level wind with the same problems. With a rubber glove I was able to rotate the wheels a tiny amount back and forth and exercise them while greasing. Eventually they worked loose and now spin with ease. No disassembly of the wheels was necessary on mine.
Well, thank you! I took my time on it and it turned out nicer than I had hoped. Here is the writeup I did on it awhile back:
